Also, we did not find PoE capabilities when testing this switch. QNAP QSW-2104-2T-A Power Consumption It’s a valid point that 10GbE, although still more expensive than 1GbE and 2.5GbE, has become more affordable in the last five years with the advancements in more efficient and cost-effective 10GbE network controllers. This has led to the availability of more affordable 10GbE routers and switches. Some network experts may view 2.5GbE as a temporary solution, and prefer to invest in something with more bandwidth. However, there are reasons to consider 2.5GbE, for example: arrives in both Copper and Fibre, which is useful for diverse setups, but leads to a coin toss of more expensive 10G Copper base hardware vs 10G Fibre cables/transceiver high price point and complexity. 2.5GbE uses all the same hardware in place as traditional 1GbE and allows for improved sustainability and less waste QNAP reserves the right to replace partial parts or accessories if the original is no longer available from its manufacturer/supplier. Any replacement would be fully tested and verified to meet strict compatibility and stability guidelines and will deliver identical performance to the original. In general, 2.5Gb Switches aren’t exactly easy to come across and there isn’t a huge variety – plus, if the goal is to simply have upgraded networking speeds, all options above will technically handle that. There are enterprise-grade Switches (Unifi has one) that are designed to offer enterprise-grade features, but as of right now, 2.5 Gig isn’t really standard on most devices so the benefit of them is minimized.The QSW-2104 series features a fanless design for near-silent operations. The addition of two 10GbE ports is important since it increases the bandwidth of the switch significantly. We actually got slightly better performance on the SFP+ versus the 10Gbase-T links on this unit comparing QNAP to QNAP. The 2.5GbE ports were about the same. If you want better performance, and the ability to use fiber, the QNAP QSW-2104-2S-A with two SFP+ ports is probably better. If you have 10Gbase-T clients and want something easy, this is fairly close. QNAP QSW-2104-2T-A PoE and Management Capabilities The front of the switch is very similar to the QSW-2104-2S-A, except the 2 SFP+ ports are now RJ45. Ports 1-2 are 10GbE and ports 3-6 are 2.5GbE.
