About this deal

Obviously I'm a fan of romance, but I'm also a big horror novel fan and know Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural canon to a frankly disturbing extent. So, this appeals to me on several levels. Today, 435 years after it was published, the book sits on the shelf, silent, patient, having done the work its author did not want it to do. It’s almost as if…the thing had a hex on it.

I love you, Gregori," she whispered softly against his throat. "I really love you. The real you. Do you understand?"-Savannah I really enjoyed how the author was able to intertwine fantasy and mythology into one unique world! (Death Goddess, Grimm Brothers, and Lucifer!)Savannah will grow up, leave the Carpathian mountains and she will become one of the world's greatest magicians. Nobody will know that what they see is real and her magic is real. This was an incredibly fun read. The tone of our MC, Primrose is perfectly developed, and it made it awesome to read from her POV. If you like action scenes, mythology retellings, and characters that must travel to many different places, you'll want to add this to your TBR. However, with that said, I can definitely see other people enjoy this book if they like a book that freely mixes fairytales and mythologies, a stubborn och sarcastic goddess, battles with mythological monsters, and a big journey through many different lands. But don’t expect an enemies to lovers romance. You are my world,ma petite, my very existence. You are what makes living bearable. You are my light, the very air I breathe."

Now some people will complain about Gregori. Yes he’s overbearing, arrogant, controlling and manipulative. All the Carpathian males are but I’ve accepted that. Especially when you consider what’s at stake. But believe me my friends as a person who knows a little about this subject, “ THERE’S ALWAYS A BIG PRICE FOR WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR” and such things never come for good just to help you!! The night was alive with the heartbeats of countless people. He walked among them, unseen, undetected, moving with the fluid grace of a jungle predator. Their scents were strong in his nostrils. Cloying perfume. Sweat. Shampoos. Soaps. Alcohol. Drugs. AIDS. The sweet, insidious smell of blood. There were so many in this city. Cattle. Sheep. Prey. The city was the perfect hunting ground. I recommend Dark Magic to fans of paranormal suspense and conspiracies. This was an entertaining, suspenseful read and I enjoyed putting the pieces together. James Swain has published over fourteen mystery novels in countries all over the world and I look forward to reading more of his work.

Early on it was Savannah that disappointed me. She’s knows the score. Knows he’s close to going rogue and doesn’t seem to care. He gave her an extra 5 years at great personal cost to himself. I always know where you are, every moment. Five years ago you said you needed time, and I gave it to you. But I've never left you. I never will."

The daughter of the Capathian prince happens to be his life mate (they only have one) but he is not allowed to "marry" her until she's 18. However, she refuses him and asks for time. She wants to go out on her own and have a life and Gregori scares her, even though she feels the pull of their life mate chemistry. As we speak, I’m working with two demons, Mammon and Astaroth. One is providing me with financial aid, the other with knowledge of “liberal sciences”. In other words, I wish to amass wealth and learn as much as possible, and these demons are in the job of supplying me with the power and advice for accomplishing both tasks to the best of my abilities.

Gregori is one of the oldest and the deadliest of Carpathian men. As with all the men of his kind, he lost the ability to feel emotions and see in color when he turned 200. He's nearly a thousand now. And he is dangerously close to losing his honor and becoming the evil vampire he hunts. All vampires were Carpathians to begin with: they all drink blood; can use telepathy; shapeshift; and must avoid the sun. But Carpathian men who give up hope of salvation, of finding their lifemate, embrace evil and become the beast that is the vampire. I’m 20 years late to this series which yes could make a huge difference. I may have enjoyed this more had I read it when it first came out. But I didn’t and I’ve struggled. I’ve found the books boring and repetitive. The characters in the book were far from "compelling" (from Michael Connelly's review), in fact they were about as shallow as they come, especially the female characters. If I had been a woman reading this, I'm pretty sure I would have been offended by his portrayal of the two main female characters. The dialogue is stiff and uninteresting, and at times, downright silly.

Most of the time the language is cryptic and designed to confuse the reader rather than explain the contents in a concise manner. This is the area in which some modern authors, like the ones mentioned on this list, excel.
