About this deal

Lampshade Hanging: In the past, Dewey spins a line about being a very distant relative. Young Donald remarks how annoyed and confused he is by their extended family. As they designated dates to commemorate events in Jesus’ life, the early Christian Church selected January 6 as the date to observe both the birth and baptism of Christ. In the early 4thcentury it was felt by the church leadership that a distinction should be made between the two observances. They selected Dec 25 to be the date to celebrate the birth of Christ and kept Jan 6 to be the baptism. I wasn’t sure going into this book how I would feel about it as I like strange, unusual stories, yet I don’t particularly enjoy far-fetched horror books and often short stories are a let down too as there is not being enough in them to grab hold of me. However, most were enjoyable in this collection, although I will say that for the title most are not very festive. Eleven Pipers Piping - The eleven faithful apostles are remembered in this particular symbol: Peter, James, John, Andrew, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, Jude, and Simon (though there were twelve, Judas is excluded due to his betrayal of Christ) The House on Savage Lane’ is satisfying gruesome with a twist that is practically guaranteed to creep up out of nowhere and catch the reader unawares, but in the same vein, ‘Jocelyn’s Story’ is a twisted tale of a beautiful lady and her aspirations for Betty Grable’s vital statistics that doesn’t quite have the surprising punch of the former story.

Combining with Offscreen Moment of Awesome, Scrooge is apparently responsible for secretly keeping the world-eating serpent Jörmungandr at bay. This one becomes a Resolved Noodle Incident in the Season 3 episode "The Rumble for Ragnarok!". Actor Allusion: Being annoyed with Christmas Past's time travel jokes, Scrooge frowns and says "Ugh, time travellers". David Tennant's most famous role was a time traveller.Up in the Canadian snow, there's a beautiful house up for sale. The only problem is no one will buy it because the ghost, Thomas Beaudoin, keeps driving them away. In exchange for a promised partnership in the firm, a beautiful career woman, Jen Lilley, is sent to organize the sale before Christmas. Jen doesn't believe in ghosts, nor does she believe the caretaker Robert Walsh, who tells her the ghost is very real but mostly minds his own business. Robert has a working relationship with the ghost, but Jen is more hostile. When confronted with a strange, handsome man in the house, Jen doesn't believe he's a ghost. Thomas disappears and reappears before her very eyes, so she has to face facts. In its development over many centuries, the twelve days of Christmas that we celebreate today have become a theological and historical cornucopia of both the life of Christ and the life of the Church through its Christian Witness. What follows is a brief review of the themes from each of the twelve days of Christmas. Sunday After Christmas-Honor is given Joseph the Guardian (i.e. also called Righteous Joseph), David the King (the son of Jesse) and Iakovos, the (step-brother) of Christ, the 1st bishop of Jerusalem. I admit that I was charmed by the exceedingly low-budget pastiche "A Christmas Carole". It actually worked better than many a full scale parody. And "Christmas Eve at the Witch Museum" didn't disappoint; a worthy addition to the canon. This is a collection of strange, ghostly, chilling, odd and sometimes just slightly absurd stories. There are twelve of them, but there is no specifically Christmas theme. Syd Moore has turned her hand to a number of things, publishing, working for a Channel 4 arts programme, singer, go-go dancer, performance poet, children’s entertainer and working for an arts organisation. Moore is also the founder of an organisation called the Essex Girls Liberation Front, whose objective was to get the term “Essex Girl” removed from the Oxford English Dictionary. An objective that was achieved.

A Christmas Carole is, as the name suggests, Moore's version of a time hallowed classic, one without which no collection of Christmas ghost stories would be complete. It's familiar, but she also gives it a distinct twist and make sit her own.Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Once Dewey gets the idea, he immediately tries to warn his mother about her fate and save her from it. Unfortunately, if he warns his mother, then he creates a paradox, so he's forced to let her go. Gives Glory and Praise to her, who bore our Lord. Also on the 26this the commemoration of the Flight into Egypt when an angel warned Joseph of King Herod's plans to kill the children in Bethlehem.

Young Donald’s original plan for Christmas was to spend it in his room, writing one great song. He even writes it on an electric guitar that gets de-tuned by Dewey. Another of my favourites is Snowy about an elderly lady alone at Christmas except for her cats, she is happy but longs to be with her husband who has passed away. Eight Maids A-Milking- The maids represent the eight Beatitudes, which can be found in the passage of the Bible that talks about the Sermon on the Mount. Condensed, they are: Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are the meek, blessed are they who mourn, blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice, blessed are the merciful, blessed are the clean of heart, blessed are the peacemakers, and blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice's sake. The Grinch: Scrooge seems to live up to his namesake, calling Christmas nothing but commercialism and misplaced sentiment, flying into an absurd rage at an ornamental Santa Claus. He doesn't actually believe this, it's just a facade so he'll be left to party with his friends. To clarify, he doesn't hate Christmas, but he does have a problem with Santa (he knows what he did). Scrooge does, however, come to realize it's still missing the point of the holiday to dodge your family. Born to wealthy parents, she was forced to marry a young nobleman. After having 2 children she convinced him that they should live as brother and sister. Their 2 children died some time later and they agreed to give their possessions to the poor and the church. They traveled as well to many far away places doing good works along the way. She ultimately became a nun at the Mt. of Olives in Jerusalem. Hope Spot: When Della and Donald figure out that Dewey is from the future, Dewey is relieved to drop the act. He's about to warn them about the Spear of Selene and save his mother, but the twins shut him up and say he'll mess up the time stream. Dewey is forced to accept that logic. One of the guests at Scrooge's party in the past is Captain Farley Foghorn (an even bigger Captain Crash than Launchpad) from the original series. The stories fit with the wider series in a number of ways, variously taking place in Adder's Fork, featuring minor characters from the books or members's of Rosie's family (including Septimus himself), narrated to familiar figures or, in a couple of cases, I think anticipating future books. A couple are not, perhaps, strictly ghost stories but they slot in very nicely with the general theme which is of course death is a common - death anticipated, death mourned, death overcome - death awaited.
