About this deal

The Booktok hit: The Plated Prisoner Series continues in book 4. This dark adult fantasy romance is inspired by the myth of King Midas and the gold-touched woman who realizes her true worth. Queen Malina still has a few chapters, and honestly, they still bored me, but at least now I understand why she was important to the plot, and why I had to read about her journey. I still don't like her at all, and I still find her storyline boring, but at least I can see the huge impact it will have on the last book now. And she smiles, through the tears dried on her cheeks, through the glassiness of her eyes. The sight is so damn beautiful that it’s hard to breathe. I’m now in a strange kingdom surrounded by liars, with no allies of my own, but I won’t sit idly by and let myself wither. No, there’s something that’s bloomed from the pit of my repression. Something dark. Something angry.

I have never been so throughly seduced by a character as I was by Slade Ravinger. His endearments drip like warm honey and his filthiness makes me want to forsake my own morals which I would more glaldly do so for him. Read this series NOW! I felt like I was in the story watching and holding my breath the entire time' 5***** Reader Review edit: I wrote this review before reading Gleam and now I can say in fact that it was a letdown for me, but that's for the next review 🥴) RK opens various plot lines throughout the book, mostly done by newly introduced POVs and she fails to follow through with a single one of these plot lines. They all fade into nothing during the whole length of this book. Kennedy takes great pride in being a California girl. She was born and brought up there and developed a love for books at an early age. This reading habit pushed her to create interesting worlds through her imagination or her creative mind. Kennedy loves dark chocolate and tea. She is often seen consuming these while binge-watching her favorite shows on TV.

Retailers:

If they only think about putting in the hard work with dedication and determination, success will definitely find its way to their doors eventually. Author Kennedy welcomes constructive criticism as it pushes her to do better. So, she always pays attention to the words of the critics and reviewers, and keeps trying to make her work better. Honestly, it’s hard to review this books without spoilers. I can’t say much of anything without tipping you off about….all the stuff.

The dirty talk during sex scenes. I've come to realize the way Raven Kennedy writes these is not for me. While the actual sex scenes are creative and unique (like the carriage scene 🥵), it's ruined for me by the dirty talk. For example: This book was entirely Auren being a petulant child, Slade being guilt ridden and reliving his daddy issues, and yet another pending war entirely hinged on that Auren is just a worthless evil saddle. Honestly, the writing is so repetitive. It needs a good editor. And again, we see the same insta-love nonsense beginning with Osrik and Rissa, copying Auren and Slade’s romance arc almost word for word. The side characters hardly mattered at all in the time I read it.There was absolutely no point to including a new budding romance. It was clear that it was only inserted because the author new that this particular dynamic worked, as proven by the fact that it was a copy paste of Auren and Slade’s relationship in book 2. Only worse, because apart from insta lust, this was also insta love (cue: Osrik’s reaction to the stabbing). Can’t complain too much though! At least Osrik in this book was closer to what Slade used to be! Then there's the commander and I loved, LOVED, the tension between these two. Now that was some serious chemistry and I definitely need more of it. Mostly because she doesn't truly love Midas or her stupid cage that she used to live in. If there's something you crave, if there's some freedom you want to try the taste of, then you will do it, and I will be right there with you, watching you devour your wants. And then I will devour you." For ten years, I've lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas's golden castle. But one night changed everything. Second, I wasn't feeling Slade's character, here. Something was off as his character started to develop into a gaslighting love interest and I really did not like that. Several times in this book Auren voices her confusion at her life in general and how she desires to not be lead by or be dependent on a man - Slade's response was to tell her that she was his, he was hers and not to worry her pretty head and then he seduced her. Multiple times. Where is the line between romance and not listening to Auren's needs that she was clearly voicing? I'm really confused as to why his character developed in this way and it ruined the second half of the book for me, a bit.

This story focuses less on the plot and more on Auren’s emotional and mental struggles and growth, but I still loved it so much! I could not wait for the release of this book and had been counting down the days until I could immerse myself in this world again. Unfortunately, this instalment simply did not deliver. You can say something until you’re blue in the face, and it won’t do any good. People rarely change their opinions when they’re argued with. They only tend to listen to the voices of those they already agree with.”In Highbell, people sometimes traveled for weeks just to look at me. Midas would let me stand beside him in the throne room as they gawked. But no matter how long I stood there on the pedestal for them to look, no one really saw me. If they did, they’d know I’m just a girl with jagged rips and pitted holes inside of her, with golden skin hiding a broken heart. I also SO disagree with the fact that slade was willing to risk the lives of the people of his kingdom just so Auren could become mentally stable. Of course it’s something we’d all want to do but risking the lives of I assume thousands , possibly causing them starvation just for one person seems incredibly selfish to me and not something a leader would actually do.
