Setup and Assembly One niggle. Even using the lump hammer recommended I found some of the pins difficult to drive home, either the pins were slightly oversized or the holes slightly undersized. My unit was built on a lawn which, although levelled and bedded still had some 'spring'. The plastic tubes used to drive home the pins added their own measure of elastisity and absorbed their share of my hammer blows. On the top layer, running out of plastic tubes, I applied a Surform tool to bevel the edges of the pins. For my next project I shall procure a metal tube. Potting mix is a man-made material composed of natural substances, including decomposing bark, peat moss, minerals, and perlite. The main difference between garden soil and potting soil is the addition of topsoil, which makes garden soil heavier. Raised bed soil is a specific mixture of soil formulated for raised garden beds, containing the ideal balance between potting soil and garden soil. Potting mix is too light to be used in raised beds, while garden soil is too heavy. Raised bed soil possesses amazing drainage properties and provides gardeners with well-maintained loose soil that establishes a favorable environment for your plants.

Two-tier raised beds are more space-efficient than regular raised beds, and they also offer a key advantage when it comes to planting. In regular raised beds, taller plants can stop sunlight from reaching the smaller plants, leading to stunted growth. Two-tier beds allow you to grow taller plants on the lower tier, and smaller plants at the top. Our patented system makes it very easy to build our raised beds. Most designs can be constructed in a single day without any need for foundations, nails, screws or power tools - so you really can transform your garden in a weekend! To speed up your build, we recommend using our handy Dowel Cutter tool.Secondly the holes underneath the top pieces were drilled out badly and for the end two holes, incorrectly! The end two holes in each top piece don't take into account the the base of the plug that sits on top of the metal brace leaving a small gap. Why are these not drilled out correctly, it makes the whole thing look odd. When choosing a brand or type of raised garden bed, you should take into consideration the durability and longevity that you want for your bed. Vego Garden is the industry leading brand in modular metal garden beds, utilizing the best material and hardware in their designs and offering bigger and better choices than their competitors. WoodBlocX is suitable for sitting on any surface, including slopes - all you need is a suitable level surface. Create a rustic raised bed using branches or scrap wood sourced from the garden. This method is affordable, good for the planet and highly rewarding. Longer branches can be weaved together to create a ‘wattle’ bed. You’ll need upright stakes and long, supple branches.

No Soil Contamination: While treated wood and plastic degraded under extreme temperatures, Aluzinc material will not leach chemicals into plants or soil. This helps create the highest quality soil for organic gardening.

Perennial herbs do very well in raised beds thanks to the improved soil quality and better resistance to diseases. The important thing to consider is location. You don’t want to have to traipse to the end of your garden for a few basil leaves! Place your herb garden in a spot near your kitchen where you’re likely to actually use it. Ready for some sneak peeks of things? As I mentioned, this new garden has been in place for a couple of months now, and nearly everything around the bed has been changing. So, that means from just about every photographic angle, there are some crazy updates going on right next to this that I haven’t shared fully yet. From our experience, the Hugelkultur method is the easiest and most cost-efficient method to use. Hugelkultur is a method of layering organic materials such as rotted hay, branches, plant waste, and compost to the soil. You can easily fill a raised garden bed using materials lying around in your yard. As the organic matter decomposes, it breaks down into nutrient rich soil that mimics the natural soil found in a forest. You can refer to this article for more detailed information. Excellent in that I could have any size I wanted (I was trying to source a gardening zone for my disabled wife).

Vego Garden metal raised beds are made from a Zinc, Magnesium, and Aluminum coated steel. We have combined this metal with our award-winning AkzoNobel paint to develop a new material which we call VZ 2.0. The first material of its kind, VZ 2.0’s exceptional performance has been verified at the Texas A&M National Corrosion & Materials Reliability Lab. Durable and long-lasting, it provides superior performance and corrosion resistance under different environmental conditions. If you’ve not got a huge garden, creating curved beds can help give the illusion of more space. Go the extra mile as in the image above and opt for a two-tiered curved garden bed. That’s almost double the planting space!Calculate the amount of soil you will need (cubic feet/yards) using the dimensions of your raised garden bed. Keep in mind that the number should include the soil mixed in with compost. Your soil mixture should be 60% topsoil, 30% compost, and 10% potting soil. As soil can be quite expensive, we suggest you try the Hugelkultur method if you want to save money. Once you have obtained the soil, fill it near the top. The exact amount is determined by the type of plants you will be growing and personal preference. Make sure to refrain from tilling the soil as this can dry it out. Thanks to their easy maintenance and hassle-free harvesting, pyramid raised beds are an excellent choice for gardeners short of time. Try filling each tier with your favourite herbs. Most perennial herbs have shallow root systems so suit this style of raised bed perfectly. Pallets do not necessarily require a signature. We can arrange for deliveries to be left at a secure location at your property if you are not in at the time of delivery.

The benefit of a portable raised bed is that it can be moved to a sheltered location in bad weather. Large planters or pots offer the same benefits. Fixing wheels to your planter like the model pictured above will make moving it around your patio exceptionally easy. From ultra space-efficient multi-tiered beds, to those specifically made for your favourite fruit and veggies, there’s a raised bed plan to suit any and every outdoor space.Hey, that’s me! I know it’s kinda narcissistic, but I really like that having K around has meant more photos of me actually doing things here on the blog. Bothering with tripods and timers is a pain in the ass to remember… so for many years, I’ve mostly done without being present in my tutorials. But, I also think that makes things a little more impersonal. “No more disembodied hand tutorials” is a new goal.
