About this deal

I made a rather large batch, and I’m using every last ounce of restraint I have not to sprinkle it over every flat surface in my apartment. You can easily make your own scented pine cones at home with little more than a plastic storage bag, essential oils, and a spray bottle. You can use whatever essential oil you want obviously but if you have pets don't make it too strong (keep it to 1 drop per pine cone at the most) and always keep the scented cones well above where a pet can get to it or be bothered by the smell. I’ve included 4 different ways for you to make scented pine cones at home so you can meet your own particular needs (allergies to fragrance chemicals, anyone?) and satisfy your own personal crafty interests at the same time. I’m a firm believer in self-sufficiency, no matter where you live, and the power and pride that comes from doing something for yourself.

But pinecones are not the only organic thing that can be scented. You might want to try adding these other found-in-nature elements to your plastic bag to scent right along with the pinecones… Whenever I’m wandering through the woods, I always have a basket or a mesh bag with me. There’s rarely a time when the forest doesn’t provide me with some treat to eat or useful objects. Most store-bought scented pine cones have a cinnamon fragrance. Cinnamon is a great scent for the holidays, but we love this project because you can easily customize it with any fragrance you like. Get creative by using any of our warm and woodsy fragrance oils to scent your pinecones! You can also use essential oils to scent pine cones. The scent will fade, so if you notice that after a few weeks, just repeat the process of adding some oil and sealing them up for a bit. Looking for some great scents for your pine cones? Here are a few fun holiday recipes to try out! You can add or subtract drop amounts based on personal preference. Mix each set of drops below with a quarter cup of warm water to create your spray. Can I use cinnamon extract in place of cinnamon oil? Cinnamon oil is ideal since it’s not combined with alcohols and other ingredients.

Decorate your door with a pine cone wreath. You can go all out and create a wreath made entirely of pine cones or use them as an accent. And the best part is, you can use it as a centerpiece; simply put a few candles or a pillar candle in the center with a hurricane globe over it. Here are a few ideas to get you going. 5. DIY Metallic Pine Cone and Acorn Wreath Place the pine cones in decorative bowls around your home, add other festive accents like gold baubles, strings of beads, or bells. Another method to make them is to add cinnamon oil to water and then spray the cones with that water and let them rest for a few weeks. I found that they didn’t smell as strongly that way. The good news is that all of those issues can be easily solved by simply making your own aromatic cones right at home. Not only is making your own beautifully scented pine cones easy, cost-effective and safe, it also gives you the ability to be as creative as you want with how you scent them. Baking pine cones for crafts is optional, although it can be helpful. Baking at a low temperature (about 200°F or 93°C) for 30 minutes removes moisture, kills insects, and allows closed cones to open, making them more appropriate for various craft projects. Can you microwave pine cones to open them? If you gather ones in nature, you'll need to prep them first, to make sure they're bug-free. I always use Allison's tutorial for How to Bake Pineconesover at House of Hepworths. It works every time. Because pine cones take so long to break down, you can reuse them for several years. And, leading to my next tip, you can add them to the compost pile once they do start to break down. 8. Put Pine Cones in the Compost Pile If your compost pile needs more ‘brown’ or dry additions, consider using pine cones.

You can always buy scented pine cones at the store, but a better way to get festive is to make your own! Scented pine cones are incredibly easy to make. Supplies & Ingredients Also, it’s so easy and inexpensive to do that you can easily do it again year after year and have wonderful, scented pinecones as part of your fall and winter decor every year! Melt your wax in a double boiler – a large metal can (like a coffee can) placed inside a larger cooking pan of water works great and avoids any clean-up woes. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F and line a cookie sheet with foil. Place the pinecones on the cookie sheet on their side. Bake the pinecones in the oven for about 45 minutes.Making your own DIY scented cones lets you fill your home with incredible aromas – all at a fraction of the cost of the store bought versions. Sprinkle as much or as little silver or aurora borealis glitter into as much or as little Epsom salt as you want. I found a 6:1 ration of Epsom salt and glitter provides the perfect amount of sparkle. Gently blend the two with a fork. You can even skip the glitter if you want more neutral snow. I am madly in love with this fake snow. I don't have children but the delivery of my Thymes Frasier Fir essential oil was one of the best days of my life. That and the day I stalked Ikea until I stole all the information I needed to make an Ikea hot dog at home myself. Frasier Fir Essential Oil
