About this deal

Let me share with you all the supplies I needed to make DIY air dry clay ornaments, and walk you through my entire process.

We made a few different things: pinch pots, clay pots, handprint ornaments, and a few other things. To make the clay pots, I used a small plastic cache pot to roll along rolled-out clay. This told me where to cut and worked pretty well! Sealing your work will not waterproof it. Exposure to water and outdoor elements will have a negative effect on the Air-Dry Clay, so we recommend displaying your sculpture indoors.Crayola Air Dry Clay also took impressions really well—we did my daughter’s handprint, but that did require more pressure than Playdough or salt dough would. On my terracotta ornaments, I wanted them to look a little aged – like a beautiful old terracotta pot. So I watered down some white acrylic paint a lot, and dabbed it on with a brush. I carefully dabbed off any paint excess and let them dry with the white paint into the crevasses. Well it’s been a while since I have done a good old fashioned kid craft, but I thought it was high time to introduce my daughter to air dry clay! I loved working with air dry clay when I was younger—there are so many things you can make with it, and it’s EASY. As a final note—store air dry clay in an air-tight container in a cool, dark place. I personally like to buy clay in smaller amounts that I think I’ll probably use up for one craft. a shot glass, cookie cutter, small lid, or tiny glass jar ( I used these Bonne Maman 1 oz preserve jars)

Markers: Non-Permanent & Washable Markers may not provide optimal coverage if you are coloring a large area of clay since the clay tends to clog the marker nib. Permanent pigment-based markers work well for writing words on the clay. With that being said, if you are planning to make fun crafts with your kiddos, Crayola is a great product to use. What are pros and cons of Air Dry Clay? First, I grabbed a sheet pan and put a layer of aluminum foil down. Then I put my creations on the pan and put them in the oven before turning it on. Low and behold – I discovered this amazing air dry clay from DAS in both terracotta color and white! I was delighted and couldn’t wait to get started.

Whoops! We noticed a few errors in your submission:

Air-dry clay is slightly different than regular oven-baked polymer clay — it's got a fibrous texture and particular handling instructions. For the best results, keep the following tips in mind when crafting with air-dry polymer clay: Understanding the following factors and features of air-dry clay will help when selecting the right clay product. Strength So I will be using an aerosol acrylic sealer for the first layer, sealing the creations top and bottom, inside and out! Then, once that is fully dry, I will put paint with an additional built-in sealer on top of that for whatever design I want. Dry time on the clay varies depending on the size of the piece and the humidity of the environment. Most pieces will be safe to handle carefully within a day but should be allowed to dry at least 24-48 hours before painting or sealing. Actual time to completely dry may take several weeks, and the clay becomes stronger with time. When clay is dry If you’re inpatient like every kid is (and like most adults, myself included),you may be wondering how to make air dry clay dry faster. First, be mindful of the conditions in the room you’re in. If it’s a wet environment, it’s going to take longer.

The first step is to create your designs. We did a few pinch pots (super easy for the little ones to get started with), a handprint ornament for my parents, a couple smaller pots, and some balls and “dinosaur eggs” R made. Air dry clay is non-toxic and safe for children to use. This makes it a great choice for families with young children. You can also consider increasing the airflow around your piece. For example, putting a fan in front of it or turning on a ceiling fan. Flip the piece over after a bit to ensure all areas on the clay pieces are getting air flow. Can you bake air dry clay? Besides using them as the obvious (as ornaments on hanging on your Christmas tree), here are some other ideas for how to use the finished products. Air-Dry Clay can be sealed once your piece is completely dry after 72 hours. Once dry, we suggest using an acrylic varnish. Make sure to test its compatibility with the varnish before applying it to a finished piece.
