About this deal

Lynda was so successful with her TV shows and her books that she decided to make her own television production company, called La Plante Productions. Through this company she has written many TV shows in the UK, all of which have been very successful. The one that is still on TV now is the famous Trial and Retribution. Like the other DI Travis novels I've read (you can read them as stand alone or together), there's a high body count, a lot of red herrings and a lot of police involved. Which adds up to a lot of names to remember in this novel- and very few are recurring characters. The author is fantastic at describing the action, but not that good at describing characters. For example, we know Pete likes a joint and drives a nice car, but very little about his looks and life beyond the lab. That said, I enjoyed the characters and the systematic unraveling of the mystery, which is less about who-done-it and more about how-to-prove-it. While this book is an entertaining, hard-pounding mystery, it just isn't as good as the previous books in the Anna Travis series. LaPlante's skill as a writer is still apparent here -- the case is woven together in a very clever way; the connections between people and evidence slowly come together to explain the case -- but it takes far too long to bring these connections together, which severely brings the pace down. While LaPlante's descriptions are phenomenally specific and help move the reader between plot points and through the mystery, this detail becomes too much several times throughout the novel and seems to distract from the plot more than add to it.

This is my least favorite of the series so far (yes, I gave them all 3 stars, but if Goodreads let us rate on a 1-10 scale, the others would have 7 and this one would just have 4). Lynda La Plante was born Lynda J. Titchmarsh on March 15, 1943, in Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England. Her father was a salesman, and her mother was a secretary. La Plante attended a local grammar school, where she excelled in English literature. She grew up in Liverpool, Merseyside. After attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) training for stage, she appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company in several productions and well-known television series under the stage name Lynda Marchal. She must decide if she will risk her life to bring the killer to justice simply to claim the reward, or if she should leave the task to someone more experience, more willing, and more trusting than she will ever be able to trust herself after her difficult and harrowing past. The books then go on to follow Anna Travis’s career in the police. In the second book, she is now a Detective Inspector and she is still working with her partner, James Langton. Above Suspicion Lynda La Plante (born Lynda Titchmarsh) is a British author, screenwriter, and erstwhile actress (her performances in Rentaghost and other programmes were under her stage name of Lynda Marchal), best known for writing the Prime Suspect television crime series. In this novel, James Langton is haunted by an unsolved case from 13 years ago in which a 13 year old girl disappeared from a street in London. The catch was that the street was very busy at the time, and it was in daytime, but no one saw anything.

Meanwhile, Anna was invited to the FBI Academy in Virginia for a ten week training course. She had been nominated by Langton after another detective had been unable to go, accompanying him for the special course. But he also told her to get the Reynolds case finalized before she could leave. Her America trip rapidly approaching, and the Reynolds investigation more confused than ever, Anna realized she had to make a decision – leave Dewar in charge, and hope she didn’t mess things up, or forgo her once in a lifetime opportunity at FBI headquarters. What would she do? I also liked the fact that this story didn't have a particularly happy ending. Life is like that, and I think La Plante does a good job in keeping her stories real. If you love Anna Travis series, you will find “ Tom Thorne” Series by Mark Billingham and “Joe Plantagenet” by Kate Ellis a great match for you. Tom Thorne series features a main character named Tom Thorne, a detective inspector based in London, England while Joe Plantagenet features a London based Detective Inspector Joe Plantagenet. What Is The Next Book in The Anna Travis Series? Anna Travis author has received many awards over the course of her writing career thanks to her prolific writing. She was awarded two Emmy Awards for her work on Prime Suspect and also an Edgar Allan Poe Award for the best mystery television episode. In 2001 she was awarded Dennis Potter Award by the British Academy of Film and TV arts for television writing.

When a man brutally murders the surgeon who has just changed his face, the team find themselves in the middle of a double murder investigation as they also investigate the shooting of a retired police officer, known by Langton at a drug dealer's den on a seedy estate, which soon links into one of the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, a drug dealer who disappeared over ten years ago. Honorary Fellowship with the Forensic Science Society (FSSoc) in 2013, the first non-scientist to be inducted into the professional body, for her accurate portrayal of forensic science in her work.

With the murder squad’s newly renovated headquarters looking much better than had been expected, DCI Anna Travis gazed around on her return from a welcome break – a holiday which had left her tanned and relaxed. As each of her team members arrived, they were told to expect DCS James Langton for a meeting – he had a special case which required their attention. It turned out to be a case which had been closed six months previously, deemed suicide. A prisoner awaiting trial had told a guard that Josh Reynolds had been murdered – DCI Travis was put in charge of finding out the truth. I started with the Anna Travis books from the very beginning. Anna was very young, new to the homicide department. She was also a little on the shy side, not very concerned about her looks, her dress. And she has a crush on her supervisor/mentor James Langton.

I've just finished reading this and I'm still not certain who is innocent, who's guilty and who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Above Suspicion is a British crime drama based on the series of Anna Travis novels written by Lynda La Plante. The series stars Kelly Reilly and Ciarán Hinds as the protagonists Anna Travis and James Langton. Four series were broadcast over a total of four years on ITV. The first episode was broadcast on 4 January 2009, and the final episode on 28 January 2012. The first three series all aired on consecutive nights; whereas the fourth series a more traditional weekly format. The rest of the office is pretty much ignored beyond there are other officers working there. So I never really felt I got to know any of them and they were barely distinguishable from each other. One female can't get a sandwich without tomatoes, the other female isn't made to get lunch, one male has a newborn baby and the other male does not.
