About this deal

AWARD-WINNING BOOK: Mix It Up! was a Junior Library Guild Selection, a Buzzfeed Best Book of the Year, a PBS Parents Best Picture Book, an ACL Distinguished Book, and selected as a Best Book of the Year by Chicago Public Library. Tom: So which ones make orange? *we look through the book again for orange* So it was red and yellow?

This color mixing activity was an absolute hit. Both Theo and Lucy have already mentioned more than once they want to do it again! The millions of child and adult fans of Hervé Tullet and Press Here in both its hard cover and board book incarnations

Anyone looking to demonstrate the power of a physical book or looking for books to open the imagination This is an interestingway to mix the three primary colours. First we filled a shallow bowl with milk then dropped three drops of liquid red food colouring slightly away fromthe centre of the bowl. Then we added three drops of blue and three drops of yellow so that the colours formed a triangle. We squirted a small amount of washing up liquid in the centre of the triangleand watched what happened. (You can read aboutwhy the colours mix when you add the washing up liquid here). It was fascinating watching the colours move butit took a while for them to really mix together. Mix It Up! inspired us to get out our paints and get mixing! We created all kinds of colors and even named them ourselves using the free printable. I am bored! I don’t have any new books to read. I am bored! My Mom is listening to the news on the radio and they are talking about the low temperatures and the surprise winter storm that is moving in.

I don't want to compare Mix it Up to Press Here, but because it's the same type of book, by the same author, there are some parallels I will comment on. I got a free copy of this from Chronicle Books in my #ChronicleCrush box and didn't give it enough attention at first. I had seen it in Shelf Awareness and now here it was mixed in with a cookbook and a history book, so I had been under the assumption all along that this was some experimental creativity-boosting project for adults. I wish I had actually read it sooner instead of just flipping through! As the kids mixed colors, they’d save favorites they created on their free printable paint palette by painting in the circles. Students that enjoy painting or art in general will enjoy learning their colors with this book. As well as, students that are more kinesthetic learners.

Hervé Tullet, creator of the incredible ‘Press Here’, has returned with another equally fun, uniquely interactive, straight-up UNMISSABLE book. Prepare for some colour-smushing adventures that require neither the rolling up of sleeves, nor the panic over the safety of soft furnishings. Fun book that teaches children about their colors. This activity based book asks the reader to touch, rub, and count the color spots. Children learn how colors look after they mix together in this interactive picture book.Lucy began to paint pictures. She’d mix colors on her paper plate until she got just the right one to add to her artwork! Fans of Eric Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear , Leo Lionni's magical Little Blue and Little Yellow , other books about color Children will love this little book about ‘boring’ rainy, snowy days when there is nothing to do. When there are no new books and nothing to watch on the TV. That’s when one should mix it up… Mom, can I go out and play?” Sally yelled out to her mother. “Dress warm,” her mother replied. “Be sure to stay close and come in before dark.” In under a minute, Sally was outside playing with her friends and having a lot of fun. Oh! She wasn’t bored anymore either.
