Modern Celtic cross designs are often based on early and late period high crosses that were decorated with the Celtic knot artwork of triskeles, spirals and Trinity knot patterns. The East Cross in Kells, County Meath is an example of a half finished cross in situ. Sections of the cross appear to have been prepared for carving as shown in the image above.
