About this deal

Fablehouse is an inspiring story of identity, friendship and strength. Heather learns that there is nothing to be gained in running away – she can only help if she stays. Finding that place worth fighting for means everything to her. Children of today may not be battling faeries or uncovering Arthurian legend but many will see themselves in this story. A longing to find a place where we belong, a longing to be accepted for who we are, a longing to stop running and rest in love is universal and so very real in this story. And YET, I am still rating this a 4-star read. Honestly, I am Pepper Winter's trash. I will literally devour whatever she read, because at least when it comes to her books, there is no cheating, and we can expect a good amount of PLOT. So Heather makes it her mission and sets off on a quest to rescue the children who have been replaced by changelings. No child will be forgotten on her mission, as she knows that feeling all too well. Discovering some extraordinary powers, her inner strength and a fire inside herself, Heather battles to save the first place that has felt like home for years... Set in the 1950s, Fablehouse has its own magic and when one of the children, Heather found it, the underworld beneath their home was exposed. With a touch of Arthurian and Merlin legend, Heather and her friends are set to save Fablehouse before it is too late. Aside from its gorgeous cover, Fablehouse is now one of my favorite middle-grade fantasy books because its own fantasy world is so magical and amazing. Fablehouse is actually the name of the house where all children who have been excluded live there happily. I loved the concept of fablehouse where it actually protects the naive children from all the terror and hatred in the outside world.

Norry, who as well as being an author also has a BA (Hons) in Film and an MA in Screenwriting, grew up in the care system in Cardiff, but now lives and works in Bournemouth with her husband and family. Explaining how her own life experience growing up has shaped this story, she said: “My mum is white and Jewish and I don’t know my dad, I’ve never known my dad. The other major issue I had with Fable was that it made me bored. Reading this book felt like a task, like a job I had to complete, and I read for entertainment and escapism, so when that happens it's never a good sign.

Heather, Pal and friends set off to rescue children who have been taken to this threatening underworld. No child will be forgotten on their watch. Heather and friends realise they have been specially chosen for this quest. They must use the talents they've been given in the battle to save Fablehouse and all the children who have found shelter there. Unforgettable … powerful and extraordinary … Absolutely magical' Zillah Bethell, author of The Shark Caller This is such a simple story (maybe because it feels like an introduction, and we haven’t actually gotten to the meat of it yet) that pulls at your heartstrings and encompases a number of relatable YA themes, the most prominent ones being survival, abandonment, and In a classic Pepper Winter's style, another cliffhanger but this time I am left afraid of what will happen next. I don't have any theories of what will happen, all I know is that I NEED BOOK 3 asap!

The world of Fable is a ruthless one, as divided by privilege as it is by your ability to cut a throat. Surviving has its own strategies, and you either figure them out and cut yourself a place on the seas, or you’re carrion. This is a lesson every character we meet has had to learn one way or another—that there is a certain amount of darkness it takes to live the life of a trader in the Narrows. And Fay, our main character, was forced to confront this at fourteen when her father, Saint, abandoned her on an island of cutthroat dredgers. And as she attempts to reclaim her own place on the waters four years later, she learns the truth of this life of bloody business firsthand. BUT - I'm excited for book 3 - can't wait to see how this all ends. And after that, I'm excited to read the next book! We have so many Fable kids to find a HEA for!

Author

Concussed, confused, hurt and in serious need of medical help, Gemma doesn't know how to save Kassen, not only from the wounds she inflicted but also from the memories which trap him.

Because you see, they live the life of the sea, and there are only two things strictly forbidden and deemed deadly on a ship: love and drunkenness. And when your ship is your life and your life is that of a pirate with enemies watching you for any weakness to exploit, you don’t have the luxury of love. To love is to jump off a cliff and hope you hit water rather than land, knowing even the water will likely drown you. And the characters’ understanding and fear of this is what makes their love all the more decadent. E L Norry's series starter is just wonderful and I enjoyed every word. Heather is an extremely likeable and relatable main protagonist who shows how the true meaning of family, embracing your individuality, and fighting for what you believe in can be different for everyone. The addition of burgeoning friendships and Arthurian legend only enhance an already excellent storyline and I can't wait to dive into book two, hopefully in the near future. Nothing comes free, Fable. We both know that surviving means sometimes doing things that haunt you.”I absolutely fell into this beautiful book - it's the perfect book to curl up with on a dreamy, sunny afternoon! Bad: this was soooooooo repetitive. Gemma wanted to run away, Kassen’s health / mind worsened, she stayed to help, Kassen hurt Gemma (either with words or actions). Rinse wash repeat. The story was too long and some of the repetition needed to be cut out. After you talk to the teacher you can start donating books that you found in your travels. If you looted the Guild’s library you should already have a few books to donate. You can always return when you find more books (you can steal them or even buy them from traders). As usual prose is Laden with sentiments in caps, the book makes you feel ALL the jolts and pitfalls of an unrequited, impossible love which has no visible ending Fablehouse is a gorgeously magical and heartfelt adventure in a richly detailed historical setting that more people need to know about.
