About this deal

You can tweak the lumen output using Moon's VLS – Variable Lumen System – giving you a fully customisable setup that you can tweak for high performance or battery saving.

Run times in steady modes, just like the outputs, have gone up from those on the 2019 light. The flashing modes have paid the price here, though – while their outputs stay the say, their runtimes have dropped a little. Although the two Allen bolts that attach the clamp to the bar are only 2.5mm, the clamp is very secure. Its out-front style also looks sleek, with the main bulk of the unit sitting next to and slightly in front of the stem. There is an auto mode, which turns the light on and off in whichever of the light's seven settings you choose, depending on how dark/bright the conditions. Some will appreciate this (George found it 'interesting' when he reviewed the slightly lower power non-Pro Moon Meteor-X Auto), but I'm pretty indifferent to it. I'm sure there's an application for it, I just never found it. You can find all of our top-rated options in BikeRadar’s guide to the best mountain bike lights. Also tested

I found all the flash modes really effective. The Flash 1 and Steady Flash certainly grab the attention of other roads users in low light, while the mode designated solely for day use lasts 61 hours (on the default 400 lumen setting). That's a great duration for a striking, 'be-seen' mode. For instance, 1,500 lumens is overkill for a lot of road conditions, so you could tweak the brightest mode down to, say, 1,000 lumens for most rides, or even 800 lumens – almost doubling your battery life. You can actually take the brightness down to a minimum of just 20 lumens, which'll give you up to 56 hours' burn-time. You also get a wired remote control which connects to the light via the USB-C charging port. I've found that being able to change modes while keeping your hands on the hoods makes life a lot easier. I use the Ravemen PR1600 on my winter road bike, and being able to switch between dipped/high beam easily when interacting with oncoming traffic is great. Resistance to the weather is always a concern for use in British weather. The Meteor Vortex Pro is rated to IPX4, which basically means it'll withstand splashing water from any direction. Alongside riding with them in the rain, I also like to give all the lights I test a good soaking from the bathroom shower to replicate really heavy rain. The Moon sailed straight through with no water entering the battery compartment, lens or charging port. Where does it say in my post that I point it down? I aim it up the road to see where I am going and where the road goes. When did you use this particular light that you are running down, I would suspect that you have never tried it which, if that is the case, would make your points meaningless.

Klarna.com/uk/terms-and-conditions The Rigel Max also has an Intelligent Motion Sensing Function, which means if it detects no movement for 20 seconds it'll switch to 10 lumens; after 60 seconds it'll go to standby; and after an hour of nothing it goes into a deep sleep. Similarly you’ll also want to spend some time looking at the features too. Again the table above, listing the features will give you a really good overview. However you should think about the sort of features that you’d expect when buying new Lights. It’s worth writing a list of the “must-have” features so that you don’t end up compromising and missing some important features, or alternatively end up buying an unnecessarily high specced product.

Otherwise, press once to power up, then subsequent single prods change mode, double for boost. Depress the button for a few seconds to switch to the flashing modes. Moon has judged the length of the cable well – it reaches from the hoods to the light while following the contours of the bar, so it'll sit nicely under the bar tape. Modes For the size of the unit, though, I'm pretty impressed by the output. Visibility is good when used alone, even on unlit roads under tree cover. The beam is nicely direct, illuminating what you need to see, with very little wasted power out of the sides. The awkward button is unfortunate, as it controls so many things with various durations of a press (both while on or off). Take the time learn these routines and familiarise yourself with the light indicators, though, and you really start to enjoy what it can offer. Charging
