About this deal

The Duet comes with a frame, two seats, two sunshades, four wheels, a storage basket, a bumper bar and a bottle holder. Assembly: we noted what was in the box and whether all the basics were included. We looked at the instructions and how easy the pram was to assemble. Unfortunately you won’t find a rain cover inside (more on that below), which is one of the main downsides to this buggy and one that may be a deal-breaker for some parents.

I wanted something that could convert to a double when I needed it to, rather than have both seats all the time. It’s great for all-terrain and has been on many muddy forest walks. The basket is huge and it's a very sturdy buggy that never tips up. I also like how the handlebar can extend up, which is good for when the toddler's on the buggy board. I also like that I can use it as a travel system and put the car seat on it if I just want to nip into a shop. The only thing I would say is it is quite heavy when both kids are in it... and it does take a lot of space up in the boot." The Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double is a lightweight double stroller that caters well to both babies and toddlers.

Is the Mountain Buggy Duet easy to clean?

Age range: Newborn to 4 years | Maximum load: 22kg per seat | Weight: 12.8kg | Dimensions: 72 × 96 × 119cm (unfolded); 72 × 42 × 90cm (folded with wheels on); 71 × 36 × 79cm (folded with wheels off) | Travel system-compatible: No | Orientation: Side by side What we love Our tester loved how well the Duet fit into all aspects of her life. One of the pram’s selling points is how slim it is compared to other side-by-side buggies. Measuring just 65cm, it’s the same width as a single buggy and one of the most compact side-by-sides on the market. While the fabrics unfortunately can’t be machine-washed, they can be sponge-cleaned with warm water and a mild natural soap. When orange juice was spilled on the fabric, it beaded well and didn’t soak in, which meant that the liquid wiped away without leaving a stain. You’ll need a bicycle pump to inflate the tyres, but the buggy is simple to assemble. It took our tester, mum of two Liz, just a few minutes to attach the wheels to the chassis, and to clip on the individual sunshades and bumper bar. Great for off-roading and trails, fits through any standard doorway, so it’s been fine in shops or on the train. Folds pretty flat. Very comfy to push. Good resale value! We’ve had ours three years and still going strong!"

They come as either side-by-side double pushchairs Opens a new window or as tandem buggies with one seat in front of another. Single pushchairs that convert to doubles are often tandems; you attach the extra seat on top.

What is the best double buggy to buy?

Double buggies range in price and many of the designs that can be adapted, like the Duet, do tend to be at the higher end of the market. While it’s cheaper than some of its competitors, the Duet is still a big investment, especially when you have to pay extra for a rain cover. We broke down the testing into six keys areas to ensure every aspect of the pram was looked at thoroughly: When out on the nursery run, Liz pushed the buggy down narrow pavements, passed parked cars on both sides of the road and manoeuvred over areas where tree roots had pushed up the concrete. She also went on muddy dog walks in marshland and over sports grounds and gravel, and the Duet performed brilliantly on both.

This is a buggy that will, quite literally, go the distance, with a maximum weight limit per seat of 22kg, which is around four years of age. It’s not travel system-compatible, but you can attach a carrycot to give more support in the early months. At a fraction of the price of its competitors, the Chicco Echo Twin Stroller offers exceptional value for parents on a tight budget.

What’s in the box?

The seats: look at how spacious and supportive they are. Seats that can be independently reclined will suit the individual needs of both children. Separate hoods are also handy – look at how much coverage they give and whether they have UPF protection. As it’s a pram designed for city life, the wheels are small and great over flat ground, but are heavy to push on rougher terrain. But with good quality fabric that can be removed for machine-washing, it’s a functional and affordable option that most families will love. Age range: Newborn (with carrycot) to 4 years (or age 7 in single mode) | Maximum load: 15kg per seat (or 25kg in single mode) | Weight: 12.9kg (in double mode) | Dimensions: 70 × 61 × 29cm (folded); seat unit 88 x 36 x 23 (unfolded) | Orientation: Tandem (world- and parent-facing) | Travel system-compatible: Yes What we love
