About this deal

If you’re looking for something a little more battle-tested, consider Aiden’s Death Guard list, which he piloted to a 6-0 finish over Craftworlds at the Gravel Pit GT, the first event using the new dataslate. You can find the full write-up in that week’s Competitive Innovations article. Games Workshop dropped its Q2 Balance Dataslate for 40k in mid-April, dramatically changing a number of key factions. Astra Miliatrum, Marines and Sisters were buffed, Harlequins, T’au, and Custodes were nerfed, and some key game rules were changed. Now with Tyranids looming on the horizon, we’re looking at several key factions and examining their place in this new emerging meta.

Whether racing along as escorts to armoured spearheads, or prowling through burning cityscapes in support of advancing Plague Marines, Myphitic Blight-haulers encircle the foe, strike at their most vulnerable points, then close in to consume the mangled corpses that are left in destruction's wake. Nurgle’s Gift (Contagion): While an enemy unit is within Contagion Range of this unit (see below), subtract 1 from the Toughness characteristic of models in that enemy unit. At the start of the third battle round, select either Wanton Massacre or Wanton Slaughter; until the end of that battle round, your army (and every unit from it) is engaged in the wanton act you selected. Bloodletters • Plaguebearers • Horror of Tzeentch • Daemonette • Nurglings • Beast of Nurgle • Plague Drone • Flamer • ScreamerIn this article Robert “TheChirurgeon” Jones will talk about what’s new and what it means for the Death Guard. The Competitive Context With Disgustingly Resilient, Armour of Contempt, and Obsec on their marine bodies, the Death Guard will once again match up extremely well against the Adeptus Custodes, who are clearly on their way down after their nerfs. The army will potentially hold up well against Daemons, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Drukhari, and vehicle-heavy lists will likely do well against Genestealer Cults while Terminator-heavy lists should do well against T’au and Craftworlds Eldar. The Struggle Calamity Engine • Death Wheel • Decimator • Defiler • Forgefiend • Heldrake • Infernal Bombard • Maulerfiend • Soul Grinder • Venomcrawler • Wirewolf

Don: So fleeing Vectors is the obvious play. With the doubling of the bare minimum points, it is pretty reliable outside of Custodes and Knights lists. With Ferric blight in the list and Armour of Contempt exiting the game, the ability to flash outbreak a greater blight drone and run it up in to a part of your opponent’s army that needs to be destroyed. It is a shooting army for the most part but has a fairly easy way of getting around phase caps with how many phases it does damage with. The Plague marines can do actions and act as cheap screening units. You can also keep your greater blight drones safe for a turn 5 Despoiled ground play. Thousand Sons are still a real problem for Death Guard, who have no way to mitigate mortal wounds. Plus the AP-2 shooting from that army is going to hit quite a bit harder, and they’re not really counting on any 2-damage output to force through. The upside is they’re no longer scoring a free 15 off you for Wrath of Magnus, but the downside is they’re probably teleporting into your DZ to score Behind Enemy Lines.

2023 Munitorum Field Manual (MFM)

Some weapons have ‘Blast’ listed in their profile’s abilities. These are referred to as Blast weapons. In addition to the normal rules, the following rules apply to Blast weapons: You then make a Charge roll for the charging unit by rolling 2D6. The result is the maximum number of inches each model in that unit can be moved if a Charge move is possible. For a Charge move to be possible, the Charge roll must be sufficient to enable the charging unit to end that move: Clearly, the Tallyman has been busy writing down new tactics for the Death Guard to use, as War of the Spider features lots of Stratagems. If you like your Plague Marines to get up close and personal, pay a Command Point to make them into Trench-fighters. This is amazing when used on your Foul Blightspawns to make their plague sprayer deadly from even further away. Plague Companies The army now only requires 1 HQ choice, meaning Death Guard armies can now choose to drop out psykers altogether and have Abhor the Witch open as a secondary option. This is likely not a great choice for reasons we’ll discuss later, but it is an option.

Helbrute • Ferrum Infernus Dreadnought • Chaos Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought • Sonic Dreadnought • Berserker Dreadnought • Leviathan Dreadnought Changes to the ally rules prevent taking more than a Patrol of Chaos Daemons… but you weren’t taking them anyways. Exalted Sorcerer • Sorcerer • Warpsmith • Dark Apostle • Master of Possession • Master of Executions • Lord Discordant • Warsmith • Death Guard Sorcerer • Lord of Contagion • Malignant Plaguecaster • Plague Surgeon • Tallyman • Scarab Occult Sorcerer • Scarab Occult Terminators Overall the footslogging across the board Inexorable Advance kind of Death Guard playstyle might not be a top 8 tournament winning list but i do think it has potential and is pretty solid. And for any such infantry heavy Death Guard army the Myphitic Blight-hauler definitely is the secret sauce to making it work.Use this to surprise your enemies when you raise your Poxwalkers out of the very ground. Don’t forget to say “Mmmmm, brains!” when you do this. Biologus Putrifier [4 PL, 65pts]: Hyper blight grenades, Injector pistol, Krak grenades, Plague knife

During the first battle round, your army (and every unit from it) is engaged in Wanton Destruction. Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. Lord of Virulence [7 PL, -1CP, 135pts]: Ferric Blight, Stratagem: Warlord Trait [-1CP], Virulent Fever [1 PL, 15pts], Warlord

Plague Marine w/ mace and axe [38pts]: 2x Blight grenades, 2x Bubotic Axe, 2x Krak grenades, 2x Mace of Contagion, 2x Plague knife The ability to double up on units that were previously one per detachment means that Death Guard players can now take two Daemon Princes or two Chaos Lords in a Detachment. Again, not necessarily great as an option but interesting to note. The even better news is that each of the seven Plague Companies of the Death Guard has been blessed with rules that reflect the way that they wage war. Each Company gets a unique Warlord Trait, a Putrescent Relic and their own Stratagems. Follow Typhus in the 1st Plague Company, the Harbingers, and spread the blessings of the zombie plague. I’m also doubling up on Psykers here and that’s both to give myself some additional mortal wounds output/unit support and create some insurance for myself if I want to go for Warp Ritual or Interrogate. There’s a world where I drop the Inexorable here for the Wretched and potentially swap a Plaguecaster for a Daemon Prince.
