About this deal

Research has identified permeable pavements as “cool pavement technology.” Due to their high air-void structure, porous asphalt can mitigate urban heat island effect by reducing stored pavement energy and allowing rapid cooling via evaporation. United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Washington, D.C. "Field Evaluation of Permeable Pavements for Stormwater Management, Olympia, Washington." Fact Sheet. October 2000. Document No. EPA-841-B-00-005B. The open cell structure provides high surface water infiltration and is suitable for source control within a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS). The unique design of the Bodpave85 units resist lateral movement, improves traction and allows expansion & contraction whilst promoting optimum grass growth, root protection and surface stabilisation. Bodpave85 permeable paving grids should be installed onto a well prepared, free draining, firm and relatively level existing or newly constructed sub-base.

Permeable pavers can create beautiful, functional, and sustainable patio areas and courtyards. They provide an excellent solution for managing rainwater, particularly in urban settings. Emergency Access Routes In some instances it is not possible or practical to have a permeable driveway so a traditional impermeable solution will need to be used. Place and overlap a porous, non-woven landscape fabric. Cover the entire excavated ar Drake, Jennifer (2014), "Hydrologic Performance of Three Partial-Infiltration Permeable Pavements in a Cold Climate over Low Permeability Soil", Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, American Society of Civil Engineers Library, 19 (9), doi: 10.1061/(ASCE)HE.1943-5584.0000943, S2CID 128619797 , retrieved 2020-12-13 Grass can also be used as part of a permeable paving solution. A grid system is typically used to protect the grass roots and maintain the structure of the surface, while still permitting water to percolate through.Office car parks and civic squares are prime candidates for the use of permeable paving systems The more urbanised the environment, the less surface water reaches the ground naturally If geotextiles used, base preparation, surface tolerances and elevations should conform to specifications TRUEGRID® PRO LITE: This product is perfect for lighter traffic areas such as residential driveways and patios. Like the PRO PLUS®, it’s made from 100% recycled materials, and supports grass or gravel fill. Surfaces such as these are very durable and require a minimal amount of maintenance and the bonus is you will still have the look and feel of a normal paved area.

In most cases, and up until recently, a porous pavement choice has been limited to asphalt and concrete, but now that category has extended to resin bound drivewaysand paths as well.National Menu of Stormwater Best Management Practices. 2009-09-10. "Porous Asphalt Pavement". EPA. Archived from the original on 27 September 2012 . Retrieved 18 September 2012. If permeable/porous pavers are selected for water management purposes, a reduction in perviousness can occur over time, due either to accumulation of fine particles or organic growth. Commercial parking lots often face issues with water accumulation during heavy rainfall. Permeable paving not only mitigates this problem, but also delivers a sturdy, low-maintenance, and long-lasting surface that can withstand heavy vehicular traffic. Public Parks and Green Spaces Solnik, Claude (2009-11-03). "Truth unclear on recycled glass in L.I." Long Island Business News. Ronkonkoma, NY: Dolan Media. Additionally in some cases the porosity of a given drive surface is not enough to cope with heavy rains and due to this will lead to a great deal of excess runoff, for example if the driveway is on a steep slope.

Applications of Porous Pavers

Also known as cellular paving, these hexagonal cells are made from recycled plastic and hold an aggregate of your choice, such as resin-bonded gravel. They usually come in green, although other shades are available. Just lay them according to the manufacturers’ instructions, so that rainwater drains away thoroughly. These are either plastic or concrete grid systems, set down into the ground or led on top that reinforces it, stopping your wheels creating ruts but allowing the grass to grow between the mesh. Plastic systems can also be used to stabilise a gravel driveway (see below) and stop the gravel spreading away from the driveway.
