About this deal

The seat is a little awkward to get used to, and the display is sometimes difficult to read. Annoyingly, the provided bottle holder isn’t deep enough for proper bicycle bottles, and there’s nowhere to place a smartphone during a workout. But it’s difficult to fault the overall build quality and rider experience, which is definitely up there with the best of them. Assault also understand that athletes like to isolate body parts, meaning its products feature pegs for resting the feet if focussing on an upper body workout, while it is possible to also focus on the lower body with pedal power alone. Onto the hardware and in use I found the Airdyne as study as any of the air bikes I’ve tested. Adjustable feet allow you to counteract uneven surfaces and the saddle is adjustable for a wide range of rider heights. Because of the pull-out sprung dial that slots into holes on the seatpost, it’s not as micro-adjustable as I’d have liked, though. I found myself settling for one of two heights either side of my ideal setting.

Instead, the Air Bike is best known for delivering punishing High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts thanks to its inherent ability to spike the heart rate and have all the major muscle groups screaming in seemingly no time at all. Not only that, but the AD8 is built with durable commercial grade components, meaning it’s able to withstand the abuse of continued use in a commercial, or home environment. Add 1 calorie to total calorie output every minute on the minute until you cannot complete the calorie total goal in the allotted time. Of course, you can get a relatively gentle workout from these machines but it sort of defies the point. They deliver the best results when properly pushing the body through heavy sprint intervals, followed by periods of rest. More basic models don’t really allow users to hit this maximum effort. Burn 20 calories as fast as possible, then rest for the remainder of the minute. Repeat at the start of the next minute, for 8 minutes. #2. TABATAto measure heart rate in real time. Assault AirBike Comparison Schwinn Airdyne Pro vs Assault AirBike vs Rogue Echo Bike Brand: The frame on the AD Pro is a bit longer than other air bikes out there, and I think for good reason. No longer are old people the only ones using air bikes. They’re now being used more than ever in competitions and in serious training environments. This means they take more abuse from people who can push some serious wattage. (Want to see something freaky? Watch Danny Nichols get 300 calories on an Airdyne in under 10 minutes.) The main console below this is where all your main workout data is displayed. It’s also where you can program your workout. Of course you can just hit ‘start’ and begin pedalling for a simple manual workout. But if you want something a bit more structured there’s plenty of choice here too. First up are the interval sessions: 20/10, 30/90 and custom. The first number is the time in seconds of your interval, the second your recovery time. And you can programme any number of rounds from one to eight. Custom mode lets you dial in your own interval and recovery times. Schwinn Airdyne AD8 interval sessions At FitnessInn we work with the best service companies in the fitness sector. This is transmitted not only in the quality of our products but above all in the after-sales service and the product warranty . Because of this, the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 comes pre-programmed with several interval training programmes, which range from 20 seconds of sprinting and 10 seconds of rest to more punishing 45 seconds or a minute of working time and slightly longer periods of rest.

Designed for high-end performance, the Airdyne AD8 delivers a flexible, full-body workout for optimal health benefits. Users can choose to target either the upper body or lower body, or both at the same time. Multi-position handles enable users to use either horizontal or vertical grip for versatile workouts. It comes with a total of 9 workout programmes including: Although pricey, the Airdyne AD8 is still cheaper than the industry-leading AssaultBike Elite, but I think it can more than hold its own in a head-to-head calorie-burning competition. Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle review – Also consider For efficient power transfer, low maintenance, and infinite levels of challenge. 2. Multi-display LCD console Although the AD Pro isn’t an all-metal construction, I think that’s a plus. Metal is in most cases much more durable than plastic, but metal also makes much more noise. And, when it comes to a machine that already produces the decibels that Air Bikes are known to, the last thing you need is more noise. The Airdyne AD8 is the latest iteration of Schwinn’s Airdyne air bike range, and a more fully featured model than the company’s AD6i and AD2i models.

Although the arms aren’t adjustable, a feature of the Airdyne I particularly likes was the dual-level handle grips. Not only were the foam-covered grips comfortable for long periods, these handles give you two horizontal grip options and one vertical one. There’s also a nodule on the top that you can grip much like the hood of a traditional road bike. I found the vertical grip particularly valuable when trying to find leverage while hanging on for dear life during a final lung-bursting interval. Each 2 minute time limit in which 5 mile goal is not met, add: + 50 squats, + 50 pushups and + 50 ab mat sit-ups Furthermore, there's a hammer-style grip that places more emphasis on the biceps and triceps during the push/pull movement. Pedal stroke feels pretty natural, too, although keen cyclists may want to get rid of the flat, mountain bike-style pedals and replace them with some clips ins. However, there's no free-wheeling here (like a fixie bike), so stopping suddenly could potentially lead to injury. You have been warned. The bike’s design offers an adjustable seat and multi position hand grips, combined with the addition of a heart rate telemetry feature. With that in mind, it’s never been easier to hit your fitness goals down to the exact mark thanks to the multi-display LCD console showing you the calories, watts, time, distance, speed, RPM and heart rate readouts of every workout.

The Schwinn Airdyne AD Pro is an all in one tool to engage both your upper and lower body for a customized full body workout. Whether your goal is weight loss, toning, or just an overall desire to get healthier, you’ll meet your match with the Schwinn Airdyne Pro. Pros and Cons of Schwinn Airdyne Pro Positives: Unlike a more traditional exercise bike, elliptical machine, treadmill or step machine, the Air Bike isn’t really designed for long, drawn-out cardio sessions where a few episodes of your favourite Netflix show are consumed via a snazzy multimedia panel. You have to work on an Air Bike to get the most out of it It is entirely possible to sit on the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 and casually rotate the legs for an hour while watching television, but it's not really advised. You're better off with a standard recumbent bike, turbo trainer or exercise bike for that sort of thing. The Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle is another highly recommended unit, boasting brilliant features, such as a detailed onboard computer that features preset interval workouts, as well and the ability to hook up to ANT+ heart rate monitoring devices for more reliable calorie burn and heart rate zone information.Granted, the fan might spoil an episode of Eastenders for a roommate under very hard loads, but it is otherwise a silky smooth and squeak-free riding experience. The arms feel particularly chunky, and the bike doesn't even flinch when upwards of 750W are transferring through the cranks and belt drive system. At the premium end of the market, you'll get more extensive exercise performance metrics and data-driven sessions care of an LCD display or Bluetooth app pairings. Like all equipment, the more you're willing to pay, the greater features and experience you’ll get. A comfortable seat, foot pads for your rest periods or upper-body isolation intervals should be a minimum requirement when sourcing an air bike. If you take care of it with regular servicing, you’re almost guaranteed a lifetime of lung-pumping workouts to look forward to. What workouts can you do on an air bike? Based on what I’ve discussed earlier, the bike is built well and is thus as quiet as a fan bike can be. The fan is larger than that on the Assault and Xebex Air Bikes, but I don’t feel like it added much (maybe a little) more resistance or noise. The Schwinn Airdyne Pro Bike combines the latest in air resistance technology with unmatched durability and performance, allowing you to reach your full potential in the comfort of your own home. Review

This is the biggest improvement of the bike over current air bikes and one I would imagine other companies will try and emulate. Enjoy total body fitness with the help of the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 Dual Action Air Cycle. Offering unbeatable durability, the moisture-repellent steel construction ensures that this air bike is in it for the long run. I was unable to test the heart rate display on the AD8 as I tend to use wrist-based heart-rate monitors. The Airdyne AD8 (and less expensive AD6i) allow you to pair with a telemetric Polar compatible 4.5kHz – 5.5kHz chest strap transmitter. The transmitter will automatically pair and once you enter your age you’ll see what zones you need to stay in for ‘fat burn’, ‘aerobic’ and ‘anerobic’ workouts. You can also switch between current, average and max bpm. Again this trumps the Wattbike Classic, which can’t be used with heart rate monitors. Getting the bike into these spaces is relatively straightforward thanks to the two wheels on the front base. Target for watts: men to maintain 300W lower 200W upper. Women 250W lower 100W upper Final ThoughtsSchwinn has been manufacturing quality bikes for over a century, and in the fitness world, they’ve been a leading innovator in air resistance technology. With the Airdyne AD Pro, Schwinn has developed its most complete all-purpose stationary bike to date—with a perimeter-weighted flywheel design, powerful solid steel cranks, and doubled-coated steel body construction. Multi-position handles allow the rider to use a vertical or horizontal grip, redesigned foot platforms reduce slip and improve push-off, and a larger, padded seat offers optimal comfort. The universal rail and clamp system even lets users swap in their own customized seats if they choose. Arriving on a pallet, the Airdyne AD8 was already fully assembled. Unlike the AssaultBike Classic, the AD8’s pinion arms are hidden away and protected, so no chance of them getting caught on your clothing. It also meant there were no fiddly hinged arms to attach on arrival. However, with copious instructions detailing how to assemble the arms, pegs and console, I suspect consumer models will need some basic home assembly. Schwinn Airdyne AD8 dimensions Similarly, the Air Bike is also a great tool for rehabilitation, as it doesn’t have the same impact on susceptible joints, such as the knees and ankles, as running or other explosive forms of athletic exercise. What is the best air bike to buy? So, the basic makeup of the bike is metal and plastic, with the majority being aluminum and steel. Everything on the bike seems to be larger than on the Assault & Xebex bikes as well. That’s not to say it takes up a whole lot more foot space, because it doesn’t, but the fan for instance is gigantic. This is most likely a reason for a smoother start and stops compared to bikes in the past. It also comes with a handy air diverter accessory that reduces fan noise for a quieter workout and also prevents blasts of air from blowing in the user’s face whilst the bike is in use.
