About this deal

The hard-wearing nature of the Blanchon Hard Waxoil meant that there were no stains or marks whatsoever. So: the wood of your mantelpiece is looking fantastic, but you shouldn’t stop there! A big part of making your mantelpiece your own is what you put on top of it. Whilst there are endless possibilities when it comes to putting together a flawless mantelpiece display - from the artistic to the sentimental - here are a few ideas to get you started. Similar in colour to the Treatex Hardwax Oil, the Osmo Polyx-Oil - Satin-matt had a reasonably smooth finish beaten only by the Fiddes and Treatex finishes. Hardwax oil works by penetrating into the wood fibres and forming a protective layer on the surface. The oil component of the finish filters into the wood, nourishing it and feeding it with moisture, while the wax component sits on the surface, providing a shielding layer that is resistant to scratches, stains, and wear.

Upon cleaning off the excess marks it was found that once again the washing up liquid had proved to be the finishes achilles heal. Our Treatex Hardwax Oil is our recommendation and preferred method in finishing our internal oak doors. We have spent a significant amount of time testing a variety of oils and have found that this particular product offers the best finish by far; it leaves a clear finish so you can still identify the natural characteristics of the wood, such as the colour and graining. Whilst Treatex Hardwax Oil is a great way of starting to personalise your wood mantelpiece, there are a ton of other extra touches you can make to keep enhancing its charm. Wood Paint The Blanchon Hard Waxoil and the Fiddes Hardwax Oil finishes both provided an enhanced look, not far off a two coat finish.Recommended timbers: All (dense/oily timbers may require Treatex Thinner). Has a warming effect on some timbers.

It is ideal for those who are concerned about the environment and want a sustainable wood finish for their home. How to Apply Hardwax Oil Preparation When using the product as a base, sand the surface using 80-120 grit sandpaper to ensure it is smooth and all previous finish has been fully removed. Ensure all contaminants are removed as this can lead to uneven absorption and weaker performance of the natural wood preserver. Finally, make sure the surface is dry and the hardwax oil is at room temperature. Hardwax oil is a type of wood finish that is made by blending natural oils and waxes with a small amount of solvent. The oils used in hardwax oil are typically linseed oil, tung oil, or a combination of both, while the waxes used are often beeswax, carnauba wax, or a blend of these waxes. The solvent used in hardwax oil is typically a low-odour, volatile organic compound (VOC) free solvent, such as white spirit or mineral spirits. The result of this blending process is a natural wood preserver that can skewer deeply into the wood and form a protective layer on the surface, while also enhancing the natural beauty of the wood grain. How Does Hardwax Oil Work?

will cover approximately 10m² in one coat / 6m² in two coats depending on the timber and method of application. All of the standard hard wax oils will turn an solid oak floor the honey colour which you described. If you are looking for a product that will not produce this honey colour, there are two products which we would recommend. As a base coat for lighter timbers: If you want the ability to protect a light coloured timber whilst also preserving its natural colour as much as possible, Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural can be applied as a base coat under Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear to neutralise the warming effect. As a top coat for surfaces treated with Spruce Colour Tone : For a more pure white, seal Spruce Colour Tone with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural. When Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear is applied on top of our Spruce colour tone, it can have a slightly yellowing effect on the colour. After successfully surviving the 2 hour test, the Rubio Monocoat was subjected to the 48 hour test.
