About this deal

Uniden SDS200E + Activated DMR + NXDN + ProVoice Desk Top Mobile Scanner Receiver The Uniden SDS200 mobile scanner has the same features as the handheld version SDS100, plus some extra enhancements. In addition to the frequency selection the more expensive scanners often allow you to switch the mode between AM & FM. On the cheaper ones this is often done automatically and you can not change it. When the Software Defined Scanners came along with uniden punching through the market with their flagship SDS100/200 I thought it was worth a shot . Location-Based Scanning – Allows you to set your location by zip/postal code or GPS coordinates for instant reception. The Auto-locate feature will determine your general location if you don’t know where you are. Intermediate Frequency Exchange – Changes the IF used for a selected channel/frequency to help avoid image and other mixer-product interference on a frequency.

As an all-in-one unit (large display , decoding of DMR/NXDN/PROVOICE/P25 , Networking VOIP) i would say this unit is probably the best out there for its price range .Customizable Color Display – You can set the display color for each field in the display. Additionally, for many fields you can select the information provided. Trunking Discovery – Monitors system traffic on a trunked radio system to find unknown IDs and automatically records audio from and logs new channels for later review and identification. Products to be reviewed typically should be tangible ham radio related items such as radios, antennas, towers, test equipment, feedlines, etc. It is important to decide what you want to listen to before buying a scanner - it is false economy to buy a cheaper one only to find later that it misses out some frequencies that you would like to listen to. Ideally make a list of all the frequencies you are likely to want to listen to and then see which of the scanners covers all of them. Adjustable Scan/Search Delay/Resume – Set a delay up to 30 seconds or a forced resume up to 10 seconds for each channel or search.

they can be software loaded for ease because with trunking you have multiple Frequencies and Alpha tags ( ID numbers and Names) for each Repeater Find – Allows the scanner to try to switch to the repeater frequency if an input frequency is found. PC Programming – Use the Sentinel software to manage your scanner’s Profiles, Favorites Lists, Databases, and firmware updates. Another way to ensure top speeds is to make sure your frequencies are laid out ascending from lowest to highest in each system. That will help a lot .HomePatrol Database – Includes all known radio systems in the US and Canada. The database is updatable with the Sentinel software and Uniden updates the main database weekly. Range Control – Lets you set how far out from your current location the scanner will search for channels in Favorites Lists and the database. It is possible to boot up to a location based scan + your favorites list by default when you turn on the scanner. This might be useful during a natural disaster. If you assign a Startup Key to your Favorites List you can boot only to your Favorites List by holding down the appropriate key at startup. This is more useful for limiting your scan to Police and local UHF/VHF traffic. Conclusion , without hardware amendments and complete firmware redesign the SDS series will remain mediocre in terms of filtering and weak signal decoding of digital modes . Search Avoids – You can temporarily Avoid up to 250 frequencies and permanently Avoid up to 250 frequencies in any Search mode or Close Call mode.
