While most dodgeball teams have six people to a team, you can play with teams ranging from 2 to 12 or more if you have the space. FAQ Inch Foam: At one time, 8-inch foam dodgeballs were more popular. 8-inch foam dodgeballs were used in the ball mix in some Toronto leagues (four 7-inch and two 8-inch) and were a staple of the popular Detroit Cup. However, as the sport of dodgeball has matured, the popularity of 8-inch dodgeballs has waned. Many players feel that the 8-inch foam dodgeballs are just too easy to catch. The British Dodgeball Secondary Scheme of Work is designed to teach Physical Education in Secondary Schools through dodgeball-based activity. The scheme of work contains one unit of 6 lessons for Lower KS3, Upper KS3 and KS4 which have been designed in line with the National Curriculum (2014), and has been created to aid teachers in teaching a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum. The first unit has been developed to introduce, consolidate and build upon learning contained in the KS2 British Dodgeball Primary Scheme of Work which pupils may not have completed. The upper KS3 and KS4 units build upon the previous to form a spiral curriculum (Bruner, 1960). The four major dodgeball ball types are 7-inch foam dodgeballs, 8.5-inch rubber dodgeballs, 7-inch no-sting dodgeballs and cloth dodgeballs. 7-Inch Foam Dodgeballs Inch Foam: Smaller than 7-inch foam, these lightweight balls are best for ages 16 and under. You can really zing these balls and curve them if you have the skills. We sometimes see these balls used in charity-type adult tournaments as well.

Several years ago, Gopher Sports marketed a 7-inch SuperBounce foam dodgeball at approximately 180 grams. Elite Dodgeball initially used these balls for the foam divisions at some meets. While the balls were a favorite with some players because they could be super accurate when thrown, the balls were actually somewhat dangerous as they resulted in some finger breaks and sprains. The SuperBounce balls do not appear to be marketed by Gopher Sports at this time. 8.5-Inch Rubber Dodgeballs Most dodgeball sets include six balls, but the number may vary as there is no standardized dodgeball ruleset. Finding the right dodgeball set means choosing the one that fits your group and will be the most fun. Our Level 2 course is an 8 hour practical course that is perfect for anyone wishing to coach dodgeball within their community at clubs or within the school. Going into more detail than the Level 1, participants will understand dodgeball rules and game play, core skills of the sport, coaching, variations and inclusive practices, refereeing, planning and delivery and evaluating and concluding. Inch foam dodgeballs strike the perfect balance between throwing and catching abilities in our opinion. The balls are not too big to be easily caught as in the case of 8-inch foam dodgeballs. (And 6-inch foam dodgeballs are near impossible to catch when thrown by the strongest throwers.) The balls are also generally not injurious. At worst, a head shot might be frustrating to the player hit, but the hit will not leave a bruise, bloody a nose or cause a concussion in most all cases. One of the first considerations is the material and size of the balls. Classic rubber balls are larger and come with some sting, so they are better suited to adults or older children. Foam balls don’t sting as much and are much easier to grip with smaller hands. Fabric-covered balls have the size and weight of rubber balls but much less sting.The Womens/Junior Dodgeball is for those aged 12-15. The Junior Dodgeball is 7 inches in Diameter and should be inflated to a maximum of 2.0psi for match use. The Dodgeball can be deflated for training purposes and groups with differing abilities. Entries into our County Schools Championships are now open. The 2022/23 dodgeball season will see British Dodgeball expand their successful Primary School Championships pathway to allow more children to enjoy playing dodgeball. The County Primary Schools Championships are open to children in year 6 but children in younger years can attend at the discretion of the competing school. Though they’re fun to crush, try to prevent foam balls from being fully flattened, as this can shorten the life of the ball. Our leadership workshop can be delivered to any school group from year 5 upwards. Our experienced instructors can tailor the practical course to the needs of the specific group over 3 hours in the school hall. Leaders will learn the importance of health & safety, basic dodgeball skills, communication, an introduction to coaching, an introduction to refereeing and understand the rules of the sport.
