Love Quintin’s books and this was another great read which continued story from previous book. It also had all the usual characters which gives scope for so many different stories. August in Edinburgh: as Skinner stands on the edge of a career-defining moment and his fiancée -- Scotland's First Minister Aileen de Marco -- faces a political crisis, one of Scotland's most successful crime writers is found dead at the Edinburg... The dialogue continues to be be stilted as the author tries to use conversations to provide context from previous novels, or to convey the genius of Skinner and his considerable number of talented offspring who will never grow up to be anything other than lives in the shadow of the “great” man. Life seems to be going well for Assistant Chief Constable Robert Skinner - he's even the proud new father of a baby boy, Jazz. But when underground kingpin Tony Manson is found knifed in a luxury villa, Skinner's life is turned upside-down. It seems ...The first novel from Quintin Jardine, this was originally published in 1993 and was to mark the beginning of the Bob Skinner series of books. Setting up the character, it presents him with his first case allowing him to develop letting the readers know what’s expected. It also helped him to develop his voice as well. When an Edinburgh car showroom is torched, leaving a charred body among the burnt-out luxury cars, Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner wonders if a life of crime has finally caught up with one of the city's most elusive villains. But the corpse turns ... I really liked this book, it was much more like the rest of the Bob Skinner series, and a definite improvement on the Book 33. It was well written and displayed all the characteristic of a good Jardine novel.
