About this deal

First Edition Thus. THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, The Saalfield Publishing Company, 1927, first edition thus, slight wear to spine extremities and fore edge corner tips, else just about fine in full color pictorial boards and vg+ or better matching dust-wrapper with many full color pictorial illustrations by Frances Brundage. Quite scarce in dust-wrapper. Product #355. He also touches on social media influence and how it can fan the flames of extremist views. The wider public’s obsession with the graphic and morbid is also highlighted here, and the sensational aspect of the media in general.

My Penguin Classic edition has a small synopsis in the beginning of the book, and I quote, "The Night Before Christmas is still read aloud to children on Christmas Eve in Ukraine and Russia". Simarliy, Clement C. Moore's book is still read aloud to American children and probably to a whole host of children of different nationalities, including Ukrainen and Russian. Moore's book is sweet. Gogol's is a bit dark, especially for children. Gogol wrote another children's book that I read recently called "Sorotchintzy Fair". The book is similar to his "The Night Before Christmas", for it's a story of good and evil, which basically that's what Gogol's "Night Before Christmas" is all about.

Sorry the pics aren’t the greatest. I have to go to the computer now to upload my own pics so I got the ones out in the ethos! When four trail hunters go missing in the fells of Cumbria on Christmas Eve, the race is on to find them before nightfall – when the temperature plummets. I was desperate to get into this … I was not one bit disappointed . It was fast paced and exciting. I found it hard to put it down .’ Reader Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This isn't really a short story or a novella, so better described with a term I dislike, a novelette; satisfyingly darker than the other Christmas novelette haunting the media at the moment Keegan's Small Things Like These.

A fast paced storyline with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing how it will all come together.’ Reader Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Moore’s template for the Santa that he drew through his poetry soon replaced the centuries old characteristic depictions of St. Nicholas of Europe. The poem also influenced the ideas of Christmas Eve gifting and is believed to have popularized the concept of Santa visiting homes on Christmas Eve bearing gifts in America.Todo acaeciando en un marco navideño donde se cumple la tradición de que jovenes cantan villancicos en las ventanas y les dan comida : "koliadki" There it is: the reindeer have names – names that will live on as long as December 25th is celebrated as a holiday. The four missing men are all pro foxhunting and even though it has been banned for years it is suspected that this is what they have been doing. The anti- fox hunters are very vocal on social media and the whole argument had started when one of the four had deliberately run into a young female protester 5 years before, he had always denied this saying she had stepped out in front of him. She had subsequently died of her injuries.

Amongst the hilarity of this book, there are some more sombre events that really make you stop and think. They are handled with such delicacy, Adam Kay really is a brilliant writer (and comedian). When I found out Kay had a second book coming out, I was all over it. Despite my pleas to the publisher to let me have a proof, the book gods had decided I was to wait until publication day. So, I did. This magical, snow-covered version captures all the excitement. ― The School Run Published On: 2014-12-01 I always found that young children love rhyme and the rhythmic flow of words. It seems to make comprehension easier and fun for the young learner."

Foster, Donald (2000). Author Unknown: On the Trail of Anonymous. New York: Henry Holt. ISBN 0-8050-6357-9. I raced through it this weekend . Such a smart idea: twisty, warped, credible, brilliantly plotted and compelling . Deserves to be such a hit.’ Reader Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am new to the Christmas crime series with DI James Walker at its heart, but I am so glad I have found them! Illus. in full color. America's favorite Christmas poem is vividly depicted. --From the Inside Flap

From the introduction of the edition from 1912 we can perceive Moore’s motivation behind writing the poem. Please note that the reindeer do indeed fly, but only in response to Saint Nicholas’ command, and only for the purpose of getting the sleigh up and onto the roof; evidently, up until that point, the sleigh and its reindeer simply went dashing through the snow just the way less magically-adept people’s horse-drawn sleighs do. Recognition of her work came with the Smarties Prize in 1988 for Can It Be True?, the WH Smith Illustration Award in 1991 for The Hidden House and being shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler Award in 1984 and 1989 and the Kate Greenaway Medal in 1993 for Beware, Beware! Once this command has been given, the poet offers one more descriptive flourish, and then the eight reindeer display their most famous magical ability:
