About this deal

Jump down the rabbit hole with our beautiful collection of The Tale of Peter Rabbit resources. A timeless classic story about a mischievous rabbit who gets chased around the garden by Mr McGregor.

I had previously read some of the rainbow fish books to my 8-year-old when he was younger (and to my younger brothers growing up), but I hadn't encountered all of these stories and it was nice to have them all in one volume for ease of reading. The next topic is beauty. Rainbow Fish is exceptional for his beauty. He’s described as “the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean.” Students can consider important questions regarding beauty. What makes someone or something beautiful? What is more beautiful exterior beauty or character beauty? Is being unique what makes something or someone beautiful? And finally, is it beautiful to be a person who shares?I've just read a one-star review of this book that was, to me, highly amusing. It has been one-starred because the reviewer thinks it is nothing but socialist propaganda, in other words it's going to lead toddlers and little children straight down the Red Road to Communism. There is also a Spanish language edition of The Rainbow Fish, El Pez Arco Iris, as well as bilingual editions in English paired with Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Vietnamese. [4] However, he didn't seem to take to them as much as I thought he would...so I decided to find something else as informative, well-balanced and fun to read with my child. I suggest that you go buy this book for your children. It's important that your children realize that it is NEVER okay to be different from other children. After all, we as people are not allowed to be stronger/weaker, smarter/less intellectual, creative/logical, physically, spiritually or emotionally better than others. In fact, we should ALL be the same.

Enjoy the wonderful story “The Rainbow Fish” with your preschooler. Then try some activities inspired by the book. Includes arts, crafts, and learning activities, so you can have fun with your child. The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister This art project is so much fun and takes very few resources. With some cardboard cut out in the shape of a fish, some foil, and some paint, you can make your very own colorful fish. The foil gives your rainbow fish the appearance of having shiny scales, just like in the book. But still... something just feels off. Sharing is all well and good, and we encourage our kids to share and play nicely - but that's not what happens here. The little blue fish asks for one of the rainbow fishes shiny scales, and when he refuses to give away his beloved scales, all the other fish ostracise him... and that's OK? If the story was about a rainbow fish who voluntarily decided to donate his scales to enrich the lives of his friends, I'd be well on-board with that. But he only does it to make the other fish like him... and that's not what we want to teach our kids. A chilling tale about a young fish who learns that no one will ever like him--until he gives up the thing that makes him unique and becomes just like everyone else.

THIS isn't sharing. This is: give up everything about you, dissect yourself into pieces, and give them away--because others are jealous. It is one of the most horrifying conformist and self-sacrificing books I've read and it is geared to children!

The Rainbow Fish was originally published in 1992. At that time, Marcus Pfister suggested using holographic foil for the scales, a technique used in graphic design but not yet seen in children's books. Pfister says in an interview, "The expense was a big issue. Because of the foil, each copy of the book cost double the amount of the normal price of producing a book. With the cost, it was quite difficult for Davy [the editor] to decide whether to do the foil. So we decided that I’d get only 50% of my usual royalties for the book, and only that way was it possible to make it work." [3] Stories like The Rainbow Fish allow children to consider and explore some pretty big topics for some pretty little people! The other fish liked his colourful scales and called him Rainbow Fish. \"Come on, play with us, Rainbow Fish!\" But Rainbow Fish was proud and swam past them.
