NOTE: I find that when I start out on these sorts of read throughs I can quite negative. I have preconceptions of how I think things should be and then when I don’t find it it is discomforting. Then as I get through the book and I see how things all hang together and I am more familiar I get more comfortable and consequently more positive. Just bear that in mind if this comes off as a bit negative. Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG, Injury & Mishap Cards by Daniel Fox, Andrews McMeel Publishing 2018. Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG, Monster Cards by Daniel Fox, Andrews McMeel Publishing 2018. ISBN 978-0-9983523-4-3 The creatures are basically creatures straight out of Warhammer with the serial numbers filed off. The skrrzak are the Skaven. The Aztlan are the Lizardmen. The Chosen of Chaos are Chaos Warriors. The Grendel are the Beastmen. The Dvergar are the Chaos Dwarfs. The Siabra are the Dark Elves with a Witch Queen instead of a Witch King. The Arch Cenobite is a Keeper of Secrets, the Brass Primarch is a Bloodthirster, the Abyssal Prince of Decay is Nurgle, the Abyssal Prince of Change is Tzeentch, the Orx are pretty obvious, Carnal Demons are daemonettes, the Dragon-Born Ogres are dragon ogres...the point has surely been made by now. Zweihander, Open Content and a reply to Daniel Fox - Blogger Zweihander, Open Content and a reply to Daniel Fox - Blogger

Dear reader, I hope you enjoyed my article. Tabletop gaming has been a passion of mine since I was 6 years old. I've played just about every game from Dungeons and Dragons to video games like Final Fantasy. These games have inspired me, made me laugh, made me cry, and brought me endless hours of enjoyment. The lore in Zweihander is great, which contributes to game flow. However, combat is slow. Plus, this is overall the most realistic TTRPG that I’ve ever seen. The real question is whether the realism is a positive or negative for game flow. Your personal answer to that question might just decide whether or not this game is for you and your gaming group. I intended for him to shoot the noble in the arm or something as an intimidation tactic. The highwayman was a good marksman and hit. He also did enough damage to score a moderate injury, something like a bone fracture or deafening an ear. This is randomly determined by rolling against a chart, because fate and whatnot, so my players watched as I rolled a 97 on a D100 and found the entry. The result was “roll again using the serious injury table”. Oh. Yes there are individual and companies that don't contribute open content yet strive to take advantage of the OSR label. One of them is Daniel Fox and his Zweihander. RPG. Recently Erik over at Tenkar's Tavern pointed out the incongruity of having a OSR community content program.I favor a form of permission that encourages sharing with the main conditions being that the recipient must share as well. I use the OGL or a Creative Common license because I know they have been vetted by attorneys and because I find their specific conditions align with the permissions I want to give for my works. Publisher: Iron Crown EnterprisesRolemaster Spell Law For over four decades, Rolemaster has been the definitive fantasy role-playing game that combines realism and depth without sacrificing playability. Rolemaster Unified is the next evolution drawing upon the best elements of previous editions to create a streamlined and consistent game. Rolemaster Spell Law is the spell system of […] Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: Generally averted. Magic powers don't grow in potency and the spells you get are about in line with the average damage output of most other classes at the same experience amount. And while warriors may be limited to 'hit stuff with sword' as opposed to 'call down lightning from the heavens', 'hit stuff with sword' won't end up with the warrior causing accidental self-sterilization, permanent insanity, strange weather phenomena, witch-signs, repeat offender of curdling the party ale, summoning demons, and being treated to a rousing game of Burn the Witch! by the party priest of Sig... um, the God-Emperor... and/or anyone else within earshot.

Commercial efforts for community content can be monetized through the Grim & Perilous Library, our Dungeon Master Guild at DriveThruRPG. They are released in PDF, and print-on-demand starting in February. Commercial efforts can only be released via DriveThruRPG. There’s also a “fortune pool” for players to re-roll dice, and a “misfortune pool,” for the dungeon master to do the same. These things I generally like. Captain Ersatz: The gods of Zweihänder are basically the gods of the Warhammer world, without the names. (See Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep" below.) We've been playing it for about a dozen sessions, and having fun. As a system, it seems to work well. We've just got as far as 'levelling up' to the intermediate tier, and just gained access to magic as well - which looks like it is incredibly dangerous to use.

Should players ever feel unhappy with their roll, then they can choose to change their fortune to improve the result. However, changing fortunes also gives the GM a chance to use a misfortune to make a situation more dangerous whenever they want. Players can also choose to use a fate point to escape serious harm or even death. Despite the option to engage in combat, Zweihänder is an RPG that encourages players to investigate and use their eyes, ears and voices to discover the answers they need above all else. I like games better when the group glazes over details that are non-important to the game’s actual story – what I’m there to engage with in the first place. Gangbangers: The campaign seed Gangs of Kahabro adds the option of roleplaying medieval 'Work Gangs'.It also omits the highly problematic Moral Rights waiver, which even the Genesis Foundry agreement includes. When it comes to character classes, the game is still pretty confusing. I counted twice to make sure: there are 72 basic professions in Zweihander. There are also 46 elite professions. One important thing to note though, that is really good, is that just in the classes alone, there is literally an entire world of lore. You could easily build entire campaigns just by reading through the professions section in this book. Inspired by the likes of the video game Bloodborne, manga series Berserk and indie films such as A Field in England, Zweihänder is a tabletop RPG that takes place in an alternative medieval world filled with magic and darkness. Originally released in 2017, Zweihänder now has a starter kit designed to help newer players begin playing the TRPG, whilst still ensuring that it remains compatible with previous releases. I am just going to refer to Zweihänder as Z from now on as I am going to use the games name so often that typing that umlaut on the a is just a pain in the arse. But when it comes to CCPs focused on a system, then the no derivative clause strikes me as the publisher being overly greedy and protective. That what OBS CCP offer (commerical sales, 50% royalty) is not sufficient compensative for those rights.

Torches and Pitchforks: A very real threat to most adventurers. When your insanities grow too grotesque, when your mutations grow too hideous, or when the peasants find out that you have a wizard (or worse, an elf) in your party; the mob awaits! In fact, the risks inherent to growing power are a near-constant theme throughout Zweihänder, as greater strengths also bring more chances for characters to grow corrupt and decadent. The entire game deliberate distances itself from the traditional Dungeons & Dragons power fantasy, from its risky approach to spellcasting to the lethality of its combat system.Character creation in Zweihander is very in-depth. I mentioned the tables for randomly-generating your character, above. A few more tables I didn’t mention, already: there are random tables for your character’s height, weight, build, and social class. This sounds really cool at first, but just think about it. It’s the kind of thing that’s really neat in a video game, but details like that in a TTRPG are a bit (way too) much. Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The gods are known only by such names as "The Custodian," "The God-Emperor," "The Winter King," etc. license, reproduce, print, publish, distribute, translate, display, publicly perform and transmit your Work, in whole and in part, in each country in the world, in all languages and formats, and by all means now known or later developed, and the right to prepare derivative works of your Work. The implication of the above is twofold, the first is that you can't bring an existing work or existing open content into a worked released within the Grim & Perilous Library. Second, any work you release first within the Grim & Perilous Library, you lose the right to use it outside of the program even if you remove all of the Zweihander IP. The opening texts are topped off with some GM advice about keeping play moving and about creating house rules. This is the exact text that completes the section on house rules. He was about to explain to them that he would pay them to help him reclaim his keep when the carriage stopped and a smarmy voice outside told everyone to freeze. Someone told NPC to look out, and I obliged by having him lean out the window, because the noble was supposed to be kinda naive. This is when the highwayman outside, also an NPC and therefore controlled by me, ruined this entire mission and half of the rest of the plot.
