About this deal

But if given to me at a friends' place while I'm socializing I'll thank them for the hospitality, finish my whisky and promptly forget about it. Rain continues in northeast wind Friday, wind easing, becoming dry overnight then showers north later Saturday. Sunday soon becomes dry with sunny spells. I was 16 years old then and my holiday job was as a grouse beater, driving the birds across the moors to the 'guns' sitting in (and on) their butts, waiting to unleash both barrels at anything which came their way.

Dry with sunny spells at first, easterly wind strengthens from morning with further rain by the afternoon. Maximum temperature 11 °C. Outlook for Friday to Sunday: OK, we know that there’s a world of difference between a distillery expression and a single cask bottling but our view was that the distillery bottle would need to very good indeed to be worth three times the price of the single cask. Victor To answer your question - Nope. No reason at all. Like I said it's super hard to find any major faults with a whisky likes this without being completely subjective and saying 'Nah, I really don't care much for this.' While its “ Exceptional Cask” releases are bottled at cask strength, the three whiskies we look at today — representing the core of Aberfeldy’s single malt lineup, all formally relaunched a few years ago — are all bottled at 80 proof. All three are aged in a combination of ex-bourbon casks, first fill oloroso sherry casks, and refill casks which are then married together before bottling — though note the additional aging on the 16 year old below. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. It has been a long ol' while since That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottled their first batch of Aberfeldy single malt - but that all changes with the launch of their second batch of Aberfeldy! This time it has an age statement (it's 21 years old), but it still features the smiling face of Ian Buxton, striking gold in Aberfeldy's water source, the Pitlie Burn. Aberfeldy's 21 year old was re-launched with a new design in 2015 and lies within theircore range of bottlings (12, 16, 18, 21 & 28 year olds). It's a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks and has won several gold medals and 'best in show' awards. It's a whisky that has always held a soft spot in my heart, and one to this day which I still use as a 'learning tool' for introducingnewbies to the more woody flavours which can be associated with longer periods of cask maturation.

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, some heavy, accompanied by fresh to strong easterly winds. Becoming brighter later in east, but showers in west, winds easing. Maximum temperature 11 °C. Tonight: The start is not bad for 40% and the mouth is filled. A nice note of forest honey comes through. Herbs are in the honey. Orange zests and sweet pastries again.

Close but no(tes of) cigar

What do I personally think of Aberfeldy? I don't, actually. I've had the 12 year old at a bar somewhere and was completely unmoved. I had this one sitting on my shelf for the longest time and was completely unmotivated to open it. complexity:one of the most complex and full bodied scotches i've had so far. rich in texture and elegance wrapped up in a sweet expression of mischief and delight. Aberfeldy’s bottle is described by Royal Mile Whiskies as ‘an old smoothie for after-dinner sipping’. There’s no denying that the 21 year old is smooth, mellow and sweet. It has a light flowery nose with a flavour that is delicately oaky with a hint of spice. While the flavour is very pleasant (making it, what one of the assembled company described as a good session malt) it was undistinguished. The Gordon and MacPhail bottle, on the other hand, was full of flavour. Nothing restrained and elegant about this guy – it’s more oily in the glass and has a less subtle nose, the oak more prominent. Undiluted it is harsh but with warm it becomes lighter, fruitier and more complex. While the 21 year slips down the throat like a soothing medicine, the single cask dances in the mouth. Aberfeldy is best known for its significant contributions to Dewar’s Scotch blends (Dewar’s being the distillery’s corporate owner), but it’s also the home to its own line of single malts, with bottlings reaching as old as 40 years of age. Situated uniquely between the Highlands and the Lowlands region of Scotland — technically either the Midlands or the Lower Highlands, depending on who you ask — Aberfeldy is known for producing mainstream, approachable whiskies with broad appeal.

The nose is rather closed. A get loads of barley and dark honey, but not much else. It takes a while before it shows its true colors. Hint of chewing tobacco, candied orange peel and some floral elements. Orange blossoms. There is a lovely dusty side to it though, as if I am in the attic. Palate: Silky vanilla and creamy oak lead to refined smoke, with notes of marzipan, candied orange, and floral fruit. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. Although there is a chance of more settled conditions at the start of this period, the rest of November looks set to return to predominantly unsettled with further rain or showers at times. However, perhaps less-unsettled than earlier in the month, with more drier and brighter intervals likely at times, perhaps more especially in the northwest. Temperatures will be around normal for the time of year, but in any drier interludes, particularly if the wind comes from a more easterly direction, temperatures could take a dip with some frost by night. As would often be expected in late November, some of the precipitation is likely to turn increasingly wintry, mainly on high ground in the north. I shared the financial burden with my Scottish pal as part of our annual Christmas pact to split the cost and explore a more expensive bottle that normally we could not justify on our own steam, a great partnership i can highly recommend. It's not bad at all although a little unremarkable and if it was a third of the price it would be a decent buy.
