About this deal

It’s great for large families or even for those of us who like to show off a bit with our home equipment. After spending more than two hours assembling a Traeger Pro (below) for this test, we weren’t enthused about setting up another one. Thankfully, it arrives fully constructed (except for the wheels) so there are no worries about this grill collapsing on you, spilling your dinner and setting the yard on fire due to poor assembly skills. It has a whopping 860 square inches of cooking space, which is incredible compared to almost any other grill or smoker we’ve seen. As a rule, 400 square inches should be enough to cook about 12-16 burger patties in one go. Construction Build

Wood pellet smokers and grills have grown in popularity over the past few years due to their ‘cleaner’ burning, and significant fuel savings in comparison to charcoal. Description: The Char Broil Gas2Coal 330 Hybrid Grill is a simple solution to the ultimate grilling question, Gas or Charcoal? With the Char Broil Gas2Coal 330 Hybrid Grill it is possible to enjoy both of those op Admittedly, I did review the Char-Broil Gas2Coal BBQ on a handful of windy March evenings, so if you were to use it in the summer when the sun is out and the wind is less strong it's unlikely to blow your flame around, but I was concerned when the burner was on full strength that the flames seemed to be flowing just about everywhere but underneath the pan I was trying to heat. If the grate were a little lower I'd have been able to cook my peas a lot faster! Royal Gourmet has a history of producing attractive grills, and this 3-burner combo is no different.Combo grills tend to be generously sized, with some on the list above offering two separate cooking spaces to cook over. This allows you to be extremely time-efficient, cooking larger batches of food at once. Cost-Efficient The Royal Gourmet’s charcoal firebox is impressive. It features dual air vents to maintain good grilling heat, making it easy to operate as a smoker as well. There are a couple of things we did miss, such as the ability to have different heat levels on different areas of the grill. As such, there’s no option for cooking over indirect heat either. We wouldn’t have minded a shelf to put all of the cooked burgers. Not that they lasted long enough to cool off anyway. It has two separate temperature gauges, so you can be across different cooking activities all at once.

You won’t have to compromise at all in favor of getting gas over charcoal or vice versa. These grills are just how they sound: The convenience of gas lighting, with the authentic tastes and aromas that charcoal gives you. There are some caveats here, particularly if the grill has more burners. For example, if a grill has an average BTU number but a high number of burners, then this actually means that the grill is quite weak per burner . Big Green Eggs aren’t simply barbecues: they’re ceramic-lined outdoor cookers in the style of Japanese kamodo ovens. Rather like Indian tandoor ovens, they get very hot indeed. You cook with the lid down and make good use of the built-in thermometer to know when to add food. Instead of spreading yourself thin over two appliances, you and dedicate your time and energy on just one. This fantastic grill offers a massive 860 square inches of cooking space. Across this large space is 30,000 BTUs of power. The best tip is to use the right charcoal along with a charcoal lighter, such as our Lighter Cubes, in conjunction with the Rapidfire Chimney Starter, all available through Weber. It’s best to use odourless, non-toxic lighter fluid or firelighter, to avoid spoiling the flavours of your meal. A chimney starter is also a fantastic way to start a charcoal grill, with the coals held in a canister-shaped cylinder, accelerating the combustion process. Don’t forget your oven gloves and tongs! How much time should you give a charcoal BBQ to heat up?

The fixings (screws, nuts and bolts etc) were film wrapped on a piece of card. Each fitting was clearly visible through the shrink-wrapped cellophane. The code number for each fitting was printed on the reverse of the card. Brilliant idea, you can clearly identify each component fitting. No, you can’t use charcoal fuel in a standard gas or propane grill. Gas grills are not designed to take on other fuels besides propane gas. It boasts huge cooking space over an elite-level porcelain cooking grate, and pairs this with digital controls and propane ignition. This makes it powerful, high-quality, and easy to use. Dimensions: W114cm x D63cm x H117cm (2 burner) W134.4 x D62.5 x H120.7 cm (3 burner) W155cm x D61 x H117 (4 burner) This is a beast, and boasts separate chambers for charcoal smoking and gas grilling, as well as a propane side burner and offset firebox. The answer to this common question is simple: it depends on the food. The smoke-free quality of gas is ideal for meals with delicate flavours. If you’re cooking a delicious light fish with a subtle taste, then gas would be the better option. If, on the other hand, you want a crisp and juicy smoked rib, or a smoke-seared steak, then a coal BBQ is the clear winner. Either can be the right choice, depending on what you plan to serve. Buy your charcoal BBQ from Weber for the best gatherings at your home You can use charcoal in a combo grill, but only in the charcoal component of that grill. What’s a Good BTU for Gas Grills?

It has an electronic ignition feature, making it easy to get this thing up and running in mere seconds Cooking on gas also seems to work fine, very good temp control, cleaning is a bit of a problem as the bottom of the BBQ bit is not removable, my old BBQ the whole under side beneath the burners slid out and could be scraped clean quite easily, the Coal 2 gas requires you to remove all the grill, heat shields etc to get and clean it. (Unfortunately, it does say in the small print that this BBQ is not designed to be cleaned by turning it on full and burning excessive off, I hadn’t seen this bit, this technique worked fine on my old barby for years.)

Gas or charcoal?

We have coal BBQs to suit all budgets and match all your picnic plans. Whatever your needs, you can find out more about our superb range, here: Master Touch Series: The master of culinary adventure If this is your first foray into the gas-charcoal hybrid world, it can be a bit daunting trying to cut through the noise and find exactly what you need. For the drama of a smokey barbecue and the longevity of the heat, I'd opt for charcoal grilling when entertaining for a crowd, because it's a less gas-intensive way of cooking and there's little risk of fuel running out.
