I think Jilly was in a really dark place when she wrote this book. None of the characters are likeable with the exception of Gav and Bao. Unfortunately, both parents and staff members neglect to take a closer look at this radical move. On the other hand, students get an opportunity to create more mayhem than usual. Violent feuds, abandoned sex, devious plotting and temperamental screaming are inevitable once Tristan, Rannaldini, the French director and volatile cast gather at Rannaldini’s abbey for filming. Even thogh everyone wanted Rannaldini dead, it was astonishing that Maestro was murdered. This didn’t stop the bizarre things from taking place.Despite this, is fair to describe Cooper as an accomplished writer, using the plot as a conveyor belt to roll in and out characters as necessary. I did not struggle to follow the story or comprehend motivations. Cooper also understands the key aspect of horse-racing: Write about the actual racing as little as possible. Characterisation is also, generally, a strong point for Cooper. I hate nearly all of them, but she gives me good reasons to hate them. I'm always left wondering whether racing people shag around this much. I suspect it's probably even more prolific than Cooper describes!

This book is about polo players. It brings in Argentinian romance experts who can also fly helicopters, heroines of each flavor and dark brooding men with troubled pasts. The heroine Perdita MacLeod is not very likeable as she interferes with the lives of almost all characters. I love Jilly. LOVE her. I know Emily to Octavia practically word for word. Also Riders and Rivals. I also like the racing stuff, despite having little interest in horses IRL. But... Too many characters, too many plots many of which seemed to be dropped or sloppily resolved (l was sure Bao' s sister was going to pop up and the Wang plot ended up not really going anywhere after Gala's fainting fit.)Jilly Cooper takes revenge on critic by naming goat after her".
