As you see, that's more my personal minimalistic and nomadic lifestyle than a shorter recreational hiking tour. Space blanket” insulation: It really works! I’ve slept directly on snow well below freezing with this pad paired with a 20-degree quilt and slept just fine. Our testers did find the pad to be comfortable, though, and warm to 22 degrees Fahrenheit on one of our Wasatch Mountains overnighters in Utah. If you’re looking to save money but still want a high-performance pad, this could be a great option for you. Although this pad’s insulation factor is impressive, it has limits. If you’ll be out in teens and single-digit temperatures (and/or expect to camp on snow or ice), you’ll want a supplemental foam pad underneath to ward off the chill.
