With the torch on holding the side switch turns on strobe, a single press turns it off. All modes are memorised – and you can tap the tail switch to momentarily turn the light on until you let go. For reference, here’s a baseline shot, with all the room lights off and almost nothing hitting the sensor. Also, here’s the light with the worst PWM I could find. I’m adding multiple timescales, so it’ll be easier to compare to the test light. Unfortunately, the PWM on this light is so bad that it doesn’t even work with my normal scale, which is 50 microseconds (50us). 10ms. 5ms. 2ms. 1ms. 0.5ms. 0.2ms. In a display faster than 0.2ms or so, the on/off cycle is more than one screen, so it’d just (very incorrectly) look like a flat line. I wrote more about this Ultrafire WF-602C flashlight and explained a little about PWM too. Aside from the body knurling, is there any significant difference between the Wurkkos WK03 and the Sofirn SC18? (I have a WK03.) The Sofirn SC18 flashlight is controlled by a single e-switch. This is a soft switch and has an indication function in the center.w The interface is very easy to use. Press the power button to turn it on and then the mode button to cycle from ultralow 67 hour 1 lumen mode, to 21 hour 15 lumen low mode, 7 hour 65 lumen mid mode and the 2 hour 45 minute 200 lumen high mode. Press and hold the mode button with the torch on or off for the headline grabbing 4000 lumen turbo mode which is insanely bright for any torch let alone one this size. Press and hold the power button with the torch off to access ultralow mode. There’s no strobe function. The display shows the brightness level and time remaining for each mode. In turbo there’s a countdown progress bar that lasts up to 10 seconds depending on the temperature of the torch. You can keep pressing it but the torch gets very hot and the turbo lasts a progressively shorter time. To obtain these numbers, I used a very rudimentary integrated shoebox and ceilingbounce on my Samsung Galaxy S10. Measurements have been calibrated using a standardized calibration light provided by 1Lumen.

Low and medium don’t quite make their claimed runtime, and high and turbo almost seemed to have swapped numbers. I appreciate that high and turbo come very close to their specified runtime, though. The 4 LEDs sit behind a TIR lens and the beam is floody, but with the huge amount of output the throw is still 209 metres with an intensity of 10900 candela. Although this is still less than the Fenix PD25R with only 800 lumens of output – which it can also hold for a lot longer. It really does depend on what you want. And I ran them for at least 10 minutes in the testing enclosure. I wanted to see not just how bright they are when you turn them, but how bright they are after they’ve been on for a while, since that’s how most people use them. They just turn them on at full brightness and leave them at that setting. The torch has built-in USB-C charging behind a rubber flap. All modes including turbo are available whilst charging. This is because the SC18 is also sold by Wurkkos, Sofirn’s sister company, as the WK03. (Or is it that the Wurkkos WK03 is sold by Sofirn as the SC18?) Either way, they’re the same light, and the second line is likely the production date. That by itself doesn’t make the light feel cheap, as the TIR is directly over the MCPCB. But one thing that does make it feel like a budget light is that you can also see the indicator light from the button through not only the TIR, but the charging port and the tube of the light as well. It seems like there’s a lot of space inside the head and/or the components are not tight which can affect the way heat is transferred away from the driver and limit the performance of the light.
