I loved this book. Did find it hard going for the first few chapters but once the story line got going, i was hooked. What I disliked about the book was characters continuing to make poor decisions. I realize when a child goes missing, emotions are high, but there were just too many instances of thoughtless behavior that it became frustrating as a reader. While there is a definite conclusion to the story it does seem to end rather abruptly.

I think readers who love books like The Silent Companions or The Familiars may well enjoy this one too. Tangled mysteries, monstrous obsession, the fear and cries in the night, the grievance, struggles and cruelty of what the war has brought us.

It spoke of that society's treatment of grief and of mental disturbance; and of how those things could make a person terribly vulnerable. I absolutely adore gothic fiction. The Lost Ones, by first time novelist Anita Frank, is an example of one of the finest novels I have read from this branch of the historical fiction genre. The Lost Ones contains gentle waves of the supernatural, and it represents an excellent study of grievances of war. Anita Frank’s debut novel proved its worth and more, The Lost Ones was a five star read all the way for me. The Lost Ones was commissioned for the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2019: Going, Gone, a collaboration between Jerwood Arts and Film and Video Umbrella.

The "red herring" the author threw in fell flat, us readers are getting more clever, we knew who it was! Ao longo da leitura, todas as peças do puzzle começam a se encaixar... Os berlindes... The Lost Ones takes the typical haunted house trope and elevates it to the next level with an atmospheric historical setting, smart lyrical writing, refreshingly unexpected plot developments, and compelling characters that the reader will invest in. Her fifteen-year old brother wants to go out and investigate. He sneaks out and actually finds more clues than the police do. The book opens with an alluring epilogue about the abduction of the little girl and how her family is thrown on a downward spiral path to destruction. And the author has captured that trauma and the pressure of the kidnapping of the daughter among the mother and father and how their trust begins to fall apart, all these details have been strikingly portrayed into the story and the readers can actually feel the weight of this mystery burdening the souls of the couple. Also the story brings out the mentality of small town folks perfectly and flawlessly and i bet readers can easily contemplate with that part.

Though they are often thought of as further from their original draenei selves than the Broken, it is unsure if becoming a Lost One necessarily involves any more mental changes than those suffered by their less-devolved kin. Though there are very few sane or friendly Lost Ones, Elder Kuruti of the Feralfen tribe and Kum'isha the Collector show, if anything, less mental degradation than many Broken, who speak in a slow, clumsy manner with irregular pauses, often referring to their difficulty in remembering the past. I really liked this author's writing style. It was descriptive, and felt very real. There were many times during this book that I could picture what I was reading, like bits of a movie replaying in my head. The story is engrossing, a young girl goes missing, and since her father has a lot of enemies is there plenty of suspects. The town has once before been through an ordeal. Forty years before, Elijah and Joanna Ingham was brutally murdered in their house only their daughters survived. But, surely this murder of Elijah and Joanna Ingham couldn't have anything to do with the missing girl? Immortality: The Lost One is immortal and cannot be killed. The Lost One is impervious to his own power, including when used by Beyonders. [2]I also believe this is a debut author and they have done such an amazing job, very impressive indeed.
