As the walls close in around her, Una fears she’ll end up just like the other girls . . . The Couple at No. 9 (2021)Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know! Thank you to the Publisher, Author and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of "Do Not Disturb" of which I have reviewed voluntary. I gemelli nascondono qualcosa. Following a difficult 18 months, Kirsty and Adrian decide to relocate from London to the village of Hywelphilly in the beautiful Breacon Beacons, Wales with their two daughters, Amelia and Evie, to open a Bed & Breakfast with Kirsty's mother. Leaving behind the only life they've known and all of the memories associated with 'The Big Smoke' after Adrian suffered a nervous breakdown, they feel that this is the change they so desperately need. As if that's not enough upheaval for them to deal with, her mother invites Selena to stay, the niece that they had previously cut out of their lives due to her blatant untruths and have not spoken with in over sixteen years. Now that they are both adults, Kirsty decides to put the past behind her after seeing Selena with daughter Ruby. Later, more estranged family members suddenly appear at the guest house including Kirsty's adopted brother, Nathan and his wife and one of Selena's former boyfriends who wants to rent a room. Trouble is certainly in the air and soon terrible things start to happen! Grippingly claustrophobic....” not my words, but those of someone on the staff of Marie Claire. Hmmm, really.

I love the structure of the book as it’s broken up into two parts. The first half tells of the events leading up to that morning as we are introduced to main characters. All in all, this is an enjoyable read and is well written and thought out as always. However, it just didn't have the wow factor that her previous books have had. I look forward to the authors future releases. Having read Claire Douglas previous books “The Sisters” and “Last seen alive” I am very honoured and excited to get a copy of “ Do not disturb” from Netgalley in exchange for a review. An effortlessly read thriller cum mystery cum drama from newly established author - and winner of a glossy magazines search to find the next big literary star - this is an enjoyable and darkly fascinating story of Abi who is recovering from the sudden death of her twin sister Lucy. Where was the suspense??? And, the psychological thriller part??? The constant is she crazy or not was pretty obvious. It was easy to figure out what happened to Lucy...and the later "twists".

Instead, the real threat is something I did not expect and it appears as if it does not directly involve the main character. It’s like the main character also the narrator is simply used as an element to tell the actual story and I find it oddly likable. The second part is the subsequent aftermath. As previous secrets are slowly told, I like how Douglas held of revealing the identity of the body! I won't spoil the book for those yet to read it. Suffice to say that the Becons of Wales are atmospheric and so is the village where the family settle. Old scores are to be settled and whilst some wounds heal others are opened up and will remain (possibly forever).

This had so much going on in terms of story development managing to keep me guessing till the very end. Claire Douglas is an awesome story teller and I enjoy her books immensely just finished couple at number 9 couldn’t put. It down Reply This will appeal to any fans of psychological dramas and thrillers, especially those with damaged characters and a plot that has you trying to work out the twists you know are coming. A great read and 4 huge stars from me!

The Sisters: A Gripping Psychological Suspense: A gripping

There are plenty of twists and turns along the way and Claire Douglas has an excellent eye and turn of phrase towards creating divisive and engaging characters. This is true here too and is one of the huge strengths of " Do Not Disturb " as motivations and inner truths are cleverly obfuscated. However once I got half way through, I hit my sweet spot, and suddenly wanted to know what exactly was happening in this multi-generation family run B&B. The Sisters” by Claire Douglas was an entertaining read, I enjoyed the story as a whole but from a critical point of view, all of the characters were false and unlikeable and the denouement rather suspect. If you’re after passing the time away with a novel to keep you engrossed I’d happily recommend this book but to the hardened psychological thriller reader, I think you’d be left wanting and therefore is best left alone. I am not sure why Abi didn't just leave...period. There was no incentive in my opinion to keep her there. The storyline itself was so gripping and the characters were equally as interesting as they were confusing. I liked Abi, although she very clearly and very obviously had a lot of issues. There was quite a strong but subtle mental health element to this book: the main character having suffered depression, suicidal episodes and other issues. It was never forced in your face but it was there and as someone who suffers from and advocates for mental health, it was good to see. I also noticed the different reactions from people towards Abi and her mental health problems – past and present. It was a good representation of how people act in real life; how supportive some are in comparison to others. When pregnant Saffron Cutler moves into 9 Skelton Place with boyfriend Tom and sets about renovations, the last thing she expects is builders uncovering a body. Two bodies, in fact.
