About this deal

This was a well written women’s fiction read with an honest, if a little depressing, look at family breakdown. Not just a marriage, but the ramifications of divorce on the whole family. Lucas faces a shattering accusation. At the same time their children Dylan and Lily start to implode. Dylan runs away and his father fights to save his reputation. The remote Antarctic island of South Georgia is about to send off its last boat of the summer – which signifies safety to resident glaciologist Felicity Lloyd. A suspenseful, professional-grade north country procedural whose heroine, a deft mix of compassion and attitude, would be welcome to return and tie up the gaping loose end Box leaves. The unrelenting cold makes this the perfect beach read. Kroll, Justin (October 12, 2015). "M. Night Shyamalan Thriller Starring James McAvoy Adds Four". Variety . Retrieved December 8, 2015.

i found some of the characters to be a little grating, like the mc ally, who continued to make the worst decisions possible at any given opportunity. but overall they were a nice bunch, and i liked that laura kay dedicated a lot of time to building up platonic relationships and stressing their importance. jeremy and ally's friendship was genuinely adorable. My suggestion to you? Take all the notes you want. Have fun. But don’t even try. Just enjoy the ride. Because what a mighty fun ride it is. Atmospheric and beautifully written. A deadly game of cat and mouse at the edge of the world.” Erin Kelly Dark, fascinating and full of surprises; the prose gleams like ice in the Antarctic sun.” Mark Edwards. I am always, on some level, looking for an adult contemporary novel with a sapphic main character which I enjoy. This may not sound that hard and/or specific, but given the number of them I have experienced complete and utter boredom over in the past couple of years, it becomes so.

The only redeeming part of this book is Esther. I loved her. She was a great woman and overall amazing person. Always? No. I think some hurts run too deep, some betrayals are too complete. In this case, Lucas cheated for YEARS and apparently said some awful things in those texts (though we didn’t get to see it). Repairing a relationship would also be dependent on both parties seeing their culpability and being broken over their part in things. That did not happen here. Amanda Brookfield explores the tensions within a fractured marriage with style, sensitivity and sharpness in her latest novel, The Split. a b Eisenberg, Eric (April 26, 2017). The Split starts as a classic chase thriller, with Freddie pursuing Felicity across the frozen wastes of this Antarctic island. She knows South Georgia well, and has had time to plan her escape, but she hasn’t allowed for his determination and stubbornness being as great as her own. In one of the most dangerous environments on earth, Freddie and Felicity finally come face to face – and the outcome is one no one could have expected. #TheSplit La novela pese a parecer que es deprimente porque trata un tema complicado, no lo es, te sabe llevar por el camino que quiere, para que a medida que vas leyendo la historia, te atrape y se te haga amena. I enjoyed and got on well with the characters, no they are not perfect but who doesn’t love a flawed person and by the end of it I felt I had built a friendship with them all, sounds far fetched?, it really isen’t, such is the authors way of telling the story and involving you in it The Split is best described as a family drama and delves into the breakdown of a marriage and the ramifications that this has on everyone. The world of big divorce cases being small, by the time the episode is out, the two sisters are on opposing sides of a custody case involving a comedian, Rex Pope (played by Mathew Baynton, whose nervy soulfulness works perfectly), and his soon-to-be-ex-wife-and-agent. Defoes has semi-poached a big businessman fish from Hannah, and the fish’s wife, Goldie, hires Hannah in her turn. There’s much more, but it’s all superbly paced and never overwhelming.

It is also actually fantastic timing because, while the review was written, I didn’t have an introduction because I had no earthly clue as to how I was going to start. This gave me a place to do so. It also gives me another point of reference for you. If I blow up the above picture? The true strength of the book for me was the slow build/honest view of the new lives they’re building and the supporting characters. The Split is an astute and involving domestic drama that is perceptive, engrossing and so believable readers will find themselves completely wrapped up in Esther and Lucas’ story. Joe is involved in two difficult relationships with women, Felicity and his mother, Delilah. How well does he manage the two, and do you see them as damaging or affirming?

Edelstein, David (January 24, 2017). "M. Night Shyamalan's Split Is Exploitative Trash". Vulture. Archived from the original on August 15, 2021 . Retrieved August 15, 2021. Joe’s mother, Delilah, is a police woman and has been following her son’s cases closely. Their relationship sometimes seems a little too close to be healthy, but for the most part they seem to be able to run through ideas together helping Joe and the police. I’m a huge Sharon Bolton fan and this is her best yet…as always, great story, wonderful characters, all floating on a breathless buzz, somewhere between dread and fright.” Lee Child I thought the pace of the book was good, the chapter length was perfect and I really liked the ending. I expected it to be really cliché and a bit cheesy, but it was totally believable and very realistic!

This section could have been named so many things. Dialogue? Narrative? Characters? Point of view? When you boil it down, and again to avoid going into specifics that may lead to spoilers, it really comes down to tone. You expect, or at least hope for the suspenseful nature of the story. If that isn’t there, you don’t have a book. Bolton has that in spades.

thoughts on “ With The Split, Sharon Bolton, Rewrote All The Rules I Thought I Learned About Adult Psychological Thrillers” To be honest I was a bit disappointed with this one, I found it to be a bit boring and I didn't like any of the characters. I think with a more interesting storyline, it could have been great but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. Thank you netgalley and boldwood books for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Sharon J Bolton was born and brought up in Lancashire, the eldest of three daughters. As a child, she dreamed of becoming an actress and a dancer, studying ballet, tap and jazz from a young age and reading drama at Loughborough University.
