I was getting older too. Things couldn’t stay the same forever.” What do you think Jenny Han is suggesting here? Recall a time in your life when you realized you were growing up, and how that felt. For Belly, summertime means all her favorite things: swimming, the beach, and the Fisher boys, Conrad and Jeremiah. She has spent summers with the Fisher family at Cousins Beach for as long as she can remember. Belly has always been in love with Conrad, and finally, one fateful summer, it seems like he might have feelings for her, too. But it turns out, so does Jeremiah. But this year something is different. This year, the boys seem to really notice Isabel for the first time. It's going to be an amazing summer - and one she'll never forget... Taylor insists, “You should have everything you want, Belly . . . You only get married once.” Describe your ideal wedding. What would you prefer to have, but could do without, when push comes to shove? What features of your dream wedding are “deal breakers”—what do you consider absolutely imperative? Delivery with Standard Australia Post usually happens within 2-10 business days from time of dispatch. Finally, after hearing Belly’s point of view, and then Jeremiah’s beginning, in It’s Not Summer Without You we have a window inside Conrad’s mind. How did your impression of Conrad change at this point? Why do think Jenny Han chose not to feature Conrad’s point of view until now? Why show shifting points of view (besides Belly’s) in the first place—what effect does this have on how you interpret the story? Every year Isabel spends a perfect summer at the beach. But this summer is different. This is the summer she turns pretty - and the year two brothers will notice her for the first time. Mr. Fisher: A man who is known to have his way no matter what it costs or who it hurts. He is Susannah's husband and the father of Conrad and Jeremiah. After Susannah dies, he turns to whiskey. He drives Conrad away after Conrad saw how badly he began treating Susannah, such as cheating on her and running away when she got cancer. He tries to sell the summer house in It's Not Summer Without You following Susannah's death, and is barely stopped in time by Laurel and Conrad. In the final book, he tries to mend his relationship with his sons and pays for Jeremiah and Belly's wedding, despite not agreeing with them getting married at such a young age.The Summer I Turned Pretty is a trilogy of young adult romance novels written by American author Jenny Han, and published by Simon & Schuster. The series includes The Summer I Turned Pretty (2009), It's Not Summer Without You (2010), and We'll Always Have Summer (2011). [1] Whereas The Summer I Turned Pretty took place exclusively at Cousins, the events of It’s Not Summer Without You take place in several different settings; Cousins, Belly’s house, Jeremiah and Conrad’s house, and Conrad’s college. Furthermore, the house at Cousins has a very different feel this summer, than it has for the characters in the past. How important is setting, in fiction? How important is setting to this story?

It’s Not Summer Without You opens on a sad note. We learn that Belly and Conrad are not together, and that Susannah has passed away. How were you affected by this beginning? In what way did Jenny Han continue Belly’s story from The Summer I Turned Pretty, and in what way did she introduce a whole new story in the sequel? The book does have a happy ending, but it’s still not the one I wanted, which is always kind of disappointing (hence the 4 stars). I definitely felt all the feels and shed a couple of tears. These nine books are popular Young Adult romance books with storylines, themes and/or settings similar to The Summer I Turned Pretty:

In The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly believes everything magical happens in the Summer, which she spends at the Cousins Beach home of her mother’s best friend, Susannah. All movies take liberties when writing them on the screen and this series was no different. Yes, the storyline of the trianglular love story behind the books is there. Belly doesn't lose her virginity in the books. Steven and Taylor play a small part in the books. There's no Aunt Julia or Skye. The boys knew about Susannah's cancer. Laurel's last name was different and she wasn't a writer. Also, no Cleveland. The house was put up for sale by Adam, but is ultimately kept w/out selling Boston home.Which character changed the most over the course of the three books? Which character surprised you the most? With which character do you most closely relate? Now that a mentioning of spin off of the series is being talked about, there's a possibility it could be different. Will they focus on Belly's Spain trip? Jere's unfaithfulness? Their time at school? Conrad's med school in CA? His mental health? He’d probably meet some random homeless guy and become best friends with him, and then he’d tell me the man’s life story the next day. Not that there were any homeless guys on our end of the beach. Not that I’d ever seen a homeless person in Cousins, for that matter. But if there was, Cam would find him.”

Belly soon realizes she has to choose between the two brothers who love her, and in doing so, will have to break one of their hearts. And she was bluffing. She had to be bluffing. No matter how upset or disappointed she was in me, I couldn’t believe that she would miss her only daughter’s wedding. I just couldn’t.” The Summer I Turned Pretty begins with a short scene prior to the first chapter. How did you interpret it? Why do you think Jenny Han introduces the book this way? Upon reading this book, I didn’t initially like it as much as Han’s other popular book, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but I still thought it was very good. If I was a teen reading it, I definitely think I would have loved it. There’s a bit of Judy Blume in Han’s writing — it’s the type of work that can connect with that age group on a deeply intimate level.
