Penelope is too perfect and too self reliant to be a thirteen year old girl. This book would have worked out better if she were a 20 year old lady instead. In many ways, Twelve minutes to midnight is too far fetched. At the beginning I thought I was about to read a gothic-mystery novel, but then the plot focused on the fantasy genre. Over all, it was an interesting and entertaining read that I know my twelve year old self would have absolutely idolised.
