About this deal

I saw one friend's (who's a dentist) concern that such book might frighten kids even more when it comes to a question of dentist visit. And children are already scared of dentists (I was and still am to this day!). So how come such book was even published? And I see that there is a need to make it interesting and that's where you need some evil witch, because how otherwise will you keep the children's attention? Demon Dentist, for me, is even better than Gangsta Granny. It's deceptively dark, gruesome and truly frightening when you deconstruct it. It's about a demon masquerading as a crazy dentist hellbent on ripping every child's entire mouthful of teeth out, leaving disgusting, vile 'gifts' under their pillow as a treat (like badger's paws and bat's wings, for example). I'm not sure how a younger reader would take this book, so it might be best to say it's for older children, maybe 10+. The illustrations are fantastically sinister, with Tony Ross perfectly capturing the grotesque Demon Dentist and her creepy cat, Fang. Alfie, we shall meet again…” No, we won’t! thought Alfie. “Oh yes we will…” she whispered. If I had a child, I would reconsider if I really wanted to give such a book for a kid. But I definetely recommend it to grown-ups who enjoy children's books. Walliams began writing children's novels in 2008 after securing a contract with the publisher HarperCollins. His books have been translated into 53 languages, [4] and he has been described as "the fastest-growing children's author in the UK", with a literary style compared to that of Roald Dahl. Except two children – Gabz, who looked on with sadness at the cruelty, and Texting Boy, who was still texting and had missed everything. “Oh dear, oh dear. What is your name, child…?” enquired the dentist. “Alfie, M-M-Miss…” the boy spluttered. “Call me Mummy…” There was no way he was ever going to call anyone that, least of all her. “Alfie what…?” continued Miss Root. “Alfie Griffith.” “Well, young Alfie Griffith, you simply must make an appointment to come and see me at my surgery very soon…” Alfie shuddered at the thought. He had vowed never to go anywhere near another dentist as long as he lived. “Do you like presents, child…?”

Walliams, David (5 October 2022). Spaceboy: The epic and funny new children's book from multi-million bestselling author David Walliams. Adam Stower. HarperCollins GB. ISBN 978-0-00-857994-4. Walliams and Stone lived in a house with a recording studio, formerly owned by Noel Gallagher, known as Supernova Heights in Belsize Park, North London. It was reported on 4 March 2015 that, following five years of marriage, the pair had decided to try a trial separation after "drifting apart". [72] On 9 September 2015, Walliams filed for divorce from Stone, citing "unreasonable behaviour". The couple were granted a decree nisi the next day; the marriage was formally dissolved six weeks after the date of filing. [73] Walliams hinted at being pansexual in the book Inside Little Britain, but said he did not like to be labelled by that word. In an interview with Radio Times in 2013, he stated: "I think it's all about falling in love with the person and that is overlooked, really. I hate it when people 'confess' or 'reveal' their sexuality and also things can change for people over the years. So it is about the person but I also think it goes beyond that. You don't just fall in love with someone's body, do you? You fall in love with someone's soul and heart and brain." [74]

HarperCollins Publishers Limited. ISBN 978-0-00-843030-6. It's the characters around him that I didn't like. Winnie the social worker is very much a stereotype, and her biscuit munching annoying. I was a bit creeped out by Alfie's dad calling him "pup". And by Alfie constantly calling the underused Gabz, his "friend girl" as a "little girl"... She's in secondary school. I didn't understand why the dentist refers to herself as "Mummy" either. Darkness had come to the town. Strange things were happening in the dead of night. Children would put a tooth under their pillow for the tooth fairy, but in the morning they would wake up to find...a dead slug; a live spider; hundreds of earwigs creeping and crawling beneath their pillow. Evil was at work. But who or what was behind it...? Read this book and find out!
