About this deal

Beatriz is really the present Queen of Historical Fiction, she can merge such a mindful plot with intriguing characters and bring us masterpieces, I've loved all of the books I've read from her and I'm so excited for the new ones! Katie already knows how in awe of her i am and how i would read literally anything she wrote but this was on a whole other level.

In any case, The Golden Hour is very good, and does an excellent job of portraying the aftermath of a school shooting without actually delving too deep into the traumatic event itself. A very solid read for kids who might be struggling and don't want to relive the news.Another thing to be thankful is the beautiful extended epilogue that Katie included at the end, was perfect and filled my heart with love🥺 The Golden Hour is our favourite novel from Beatriz and one of our most favourite read of the Year, she is really professional and an amazing writer, the way that she crafts the different times is fascinating and the topics elaborated within the book will keep you in suspense throughout the story! Life is made up of these little crossroads, after all,” he said. “A million daily forks in the road.”

The Golden Hour by Beatriz Williams | Goodreads

I really like that Katie always talks about the importance of taking care of your mental health, it is not something that many writers do, I have read stories where you magically heal with love and reality is not like that, of course love is an important aspect in life but going with a professional is the right thing to do

Three storylines

As one of the people who pushed me to write through her beautiful writing, it's no surprise to me that I laughed, cried, died and revived during the read through of this I did. Katie's descriptions render me voiceless every time, the talent of penmanship written all over her work. Young Manuel has PTSD, as his teacher was injured in a school shooting to which Manuel happened to see and pulled a fire alarm for help. This is a beautiful book, showing the power of friendships (with his classmates Sebastian and Caysha). Manuel is perfectly distracted by his burgeoning interest in photography and other natural abilities his shy personality reveals in this story.

AND OH MY LORD, THE SIDE SUPPORTING CHARACTERS? It's rare that an author is able to fully flesh out the supporting characters and make you experience them the same way you experience the main characters. I fell in love with every single one of them alongside my main girl, Sheyenne. Sheyanne Shaw what a strong and admirable character, I just want to give her a big hug for everything. I really enjoyed seeing the great progress, growth and healing Shey had, I'm really proud of her.

I went mad after [my baby] was born,” Elfriede tells Wilfred, “An extreme form of nervous melancholy.” Do you know women who have had the same mental health crisis? How does Elfriede manage to survive? How does postpartum depression change her life? the emotions i felt reading this was more than i expected but its soo utterly…well beautiful and heartbreaking. i really think its impossible to regret reading it stars. Leonora "Lulu" Randolph, a newly widowed and newly minted reporter for an American magazine, arrives in June 1941 to Nassau to write about the latest gossip of the Bahamian governor and his wife, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. On the plane she meets a mysterious Englishman, Benedict Thorpe. She ingratiates herself into Wallis and Edward's social circle and enters into a mutual arrangement with the Duchess and her New York publisher to write the Lady of Nassau column. Clever and observant she learns who are the players in Nassau from the rich and infamous from the watering holes, the Windsor's functions, and to the Red Cross events. Thoroughly researched, I felt as if I was in the Bahamas in the 1940s and traveling along with Lulu as she biked, volunteered, and bantered with the locals. However, all is not golden in this sunshine paradise. Nassau is filled with swindlers, spies, racists, traitors, and the power hungry culminating in treason and murder. The multilayered plot is not only juicy, but also intelligent and imaginative. Rich in historical detail, the book ingeniously alternates the two stories with each chapter ending in its own little cliffhanger. Truly, once you start reading it, you won't want to stop. This novel left me spellbound! I love the representation of this book. Not only of the racial and cultural representation but also the mental health representation. Books that have diversity are an immediate read for me. Plus as someone who is experience a loved one suffering because of a degenerative disease is always hard and greatly appreciated when I see a small representation of it in books. It remind me, like Sheyanne, that I am not alone.

Lerner EB, Moscati RM. The golden hour: scientific fact or medical “urban legend”? Acad Emerg Med Off J Soc Acad Emerg Med. 2001;8(7):758–760. doi: 10.1111/j.1553-2712.2001.tb00201.x.There’s so much to say and not enough words to express how beautiful this story is. From giggle and blushing, to laughing, to hurting, to crying, I experienced it all while reading Sheyanne and Liam’s story. Sheyanne’s character was written with so much love and care I felt understood in many of her emotions and it was wonderful to watch her come into her own and learning how to love and be loved. One of the hardest things to do as a human being is forgiving others for wronging, but what’s even harder than that is forgiving ourselves for pain we caused those we love most. Reading Sheyanne’s journey to forgiving herself was breathtaking in every way possible and admirable every step of the way. Hannah’s new novel is an homage to the extraordinary courage and endurance of Frenchwomen during World War II. There was a nice emphasis to Manuel to focus on an 'anchor'. I liked the anchors he chose to calm himself. I like that his friends were so helpful. An itsy-bitsy amount of lgbt squeaks very quietly into this story as Manuel befriends Sebastian. Young readers might not even notice this happening. Siempre tan comprensivo y amable con Shey, me gustó que siempre la apoyara y le diera el espacio que necesitaba aún si eso dolía, la hermosa relación que crearon estos dos fue simplemente una caricia a mi alma, los amo muchísimo 🤧 I will not trouble you with regurgitating the summary, but if you like a good love story and some mystery and intrigue all wrapped up into one (with the setting of WWI & WWII), then this book is absolutely for you. I will readily admit that this may seem slow to start for some, but it worked perfectly for me. As others have mentioned, the Duke and Duchess only appear peripherally, but I was so enthralled with what would happen to Elfriede and Lulu that I didn't even care.
