The concerns about the weatherproofing aren’t too much of a cause for concern unless you travel in really bad weather. As long as you are careful in your planning and don’t put too much strain on the straps, the HandiHoldall roof box could turn out to be a great choice. Does your car already have roof bars? No problem. You can easily attach the 330 litre HandiHoldall to these using its integrated strap system. Furthermore, unlike a traditional roof box there are no storage issues. Once you’ve used the HandiHoldall, simply roll it up and store it in the boot of the car. There is also the risk that the large capacity will end up with a lot of extra weight on the car, which could be a problem for the tyres and general roadworthiness of your vehicle. Polyester Tarpaulin material is resistant to cold, heat, tearing and ripping (400 and 175 litre models)

Of course, there is a downside in choosing something so large and rectangular for the top of your car. Tapered boxes may be less spacious, but they don’t have as many issues with drag as the car travels. Once the HandiHoldall is attached, the handling may be affected, requiring a reduction in speed and longer distances for braking. The car may also become susceptible to side winds.
