Deciding the value of a bottle of Johnnie Walker White Walker is tough due to it’s large price variance and it’s limited-edition nature. It’s not on the shelves of every liquor store you walk in to, and you don’t know what price you’ll find it at. My experience with Johnnie Walker’s Scotches are very hit or miss. Often when I’m cruising and can’t stomach the exorbitant prices for sub-par wines, I turn to whiskies which seem to be a better value on the ship. Many times (and with some good tips), the bartenders often indulge my geekiness. This has given me several opportunities to try all the different Johnnie Walkers side-by-side. Chill filtration is normally an unnecessary intrusion on the flavor of one’s whiskey as it removes flavor compounds, but I can see why it would be deemed essential in this case since this whisky is pulled from the freezer. At cold temperatures whiskey that has not undergone chill filtration will become cloudy. When this happens, the whiskey is still the same as before, but some folks find it unsightly and therefore some distilleries undertake the process purely for cosmetic reasons. The company joined Distillers Company in 1925. Distillers Company was acquired by Guinness in 1986, and Guinness merged with Grand Metropolitan to form Diageo in 1997. The final season of Game of Thrones is still a few months out, but the excitement continues to build across a wide array of industries. Case in point: The whiskey business, which is overseeing the arrival of nine GoT themed spirits, including eight single malt Scotch whiskies, one for each of the houses of Westeros (plus one for the Night’s Watch), and this oddball, a blend from Johnnie Walker bottled in honor of the show’s (arguably) biggest villains: the White Walkers. There’s not much we know about what’s inside a bottle of Johnnie walker White Walker. Here’s what we do know: the scotch whisky is aged a minimum of 3 years, it’s 41.7% ABV (83.4 proof), and it uses single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish distilleries, two of the northernmost distilleries. The single malts will reportedly include a no age statement (NAS) Cardhu Gold Reserve House Targaryen, a 9-year-old Lagavulin House Lannister, a House Stark Winter's Frost from Dalwhinnie and a 12-year-old Royal Lochnagar House Baratheon, with more details to follow.

Unlike the highly patronizing and ridiculous Jane Walker Limited Release, the White Walker is a completely new blended Scotch composed primarily of malts from Cardhu and Clynelish. Unusual for whiskeys, this blend is designed to be served cold from the freezer. While serving with a ice sphere will chill it down, the most ideal temperature for many whiskeys are in the 60-65 °F range. Taking it from the freezer, the whiskey is surprisingly fruity and floral on the nose. Usually the colder something is, the more muted the aromatics are. Medium-plus intensity nose with a mix of cherry and peaches. Not quite sweet smelling like in a pastry but more fresh like making a fruit salad. The Cardhu pedigree comes out with the white floral notes. There is also a little woodsy vanilla but no sense of smoke at all. Martin said in 2012 that readers will see more of the Others in his forthcoming novel The Winds of Winter.
