About this deal

The camera has an IP66 waterproof rating and is designed for outdoor use, making it perfect for my garden. However, the camouflage exterior may not be ideal for every environment, so take that into consideration before purchasing. Low-light illumination comes courtesy of an 850nm low-glow LED flash. Although not completely invisible to the naked eye, the flash causes disturbance to most wildlife and, with an illumination range of up to 25 metres, it’s ideal for larger gardens. The IP66 waterproof rating proved invaluable, as the camera withstood torrential downpours without faltering. Its strong dustproof capabilities kept the internals of the camera protected from the elements. The 36 infrared LEDs built-in to the camera allowed for great night-time shots without startling the animals, though the low glow may be noticeable in some situations. Set-up and connectivity are achieved via Bluetooth and the free Trail Camera Pro smartphone app. The Hongc has a built-in wi-fi hotspot so you can monitor its performance in something approaching real-time. As reflected in its price, the Spypoint Force-Pro is the most powerful Spypoint trail camera. This power is present in good quality 4K footage and 30 MP stills. On the downside, the monochrome LCD is fairly simplistic and you can’t view the SD card’s footage on the screen (like you can with the similarly priced Spypoint Solar-Dark’s color display).

If you configure the camera to only take photos and it takes them at a rate of 70 images a day, 8 AA batteries should last you a year. This wildlife camera is a great choice for capturing high-quality images and videos of animals in your garden or the great outdoors. The infrared night vision uses a wavelength of 940nm so it’s not as bright as an array of 850nm IREDs but it is less visible to wildlife. In the context of a suburban or country garden, this is less important than it sounds. While it’s true that in the wild they’re likely to be put off by artificial light, creatures who live in and around human settlements are undeterred. The distinction only really applies to animals in areas without electricity. The trigger speed of the camera was quite remarkable. At 0.1s, I was able to capture up to 5 continuous shots of exciting moments in the wild. However, I did find that the setup process took some time and patience, with many features to navigate before getting started. The UK weather can be rough at times and you’ll need a camera that can handle this. The way a device can withstand harsh conditions is measured is the IP (Ingress Protection) rating. It applies to rain, snow, dust and sand. The higher the rating, the more durable the camera. Low-light Functionality Since many animals are active at night, it’s essential for a wildlife camera to have good night vision capabilities. I recommend looking for cameras with no-glow or low-glow infrared LEDs, as these are less likely to disturb the animals and provide clearer images in low light conditions. An interesting feature I haven’t seen elsewhere is shot lag, also known as shutter lag. Shot lag is the length of time it takes the camera to emerge from standby, autofocus and adjust the shutter speed to prevailing light conditions before taking the first shot. Pros: There’s a little DIY involved in getting the box and cabling installed, but the camera itself is essentially plug-and-play and, once you’re hooked up, you will have access to your own live bird box video feed. Long battery life is crucial for continuous operation, especially in remote locations. I aim for cameras with at least six months of battery life under typical usage. Also, ensure the camera is weatherproof and sturdy enough to withstand the harsh outdoor conditions common in the UK. Additional features

The CEYOMUR WiFi Bluetooth Wildlife Camera is a great choice due to its advanced features and excellent performance, both day and night. The Spypoint Link-Micro-S-LTE has some key advantages over some of the other trail cameras in the Spypoint range, as it can send images via cellular connection like the best cellular trail cameras. The A3S can be powered by eight AA batteries or via a 12v input and records straight to standard-sized SD cards. Trigger response time: A camera’s trigger response time refers to the delay between an animal appearing and the camera responding. Generally speaking, the shorter the response time, the better. Too slow, and the animal may have already left before the picture has been taken – but anything below 0.5 seconds should fare just fine. The 0.2S trigger speed and 65 feet trigger distance allowed me to capture incredible motion shots and observe animals without disturbing them. Furthermore, the 850nm low-glow IR LEDs provided clear night vision, making this camera ideal for nocturnal wildlife observation. Low glow flashes emit 850nm wavelength light, which although almost invisible to the naked eye can cause the lamp to glow a dim red, potentially disturbing highly sensitive animals. No glow flashes emit 940nm wavelength light which is completely invisible, running no risk of scaring wildlife. While no glow flashes are more discreet they’re often not as bright, resulting in a shorter effective flash range, and they’re almost always more expensive than the low glow equivalent.
