About this deal

Female friendships under the scrutiny of the Greek sunshine, this is an engrossing thriller with so many unexpected twists and turns.”— Lisa Ballantyne, bestselling author of The Guilty One

If you liked Big Little Lies, Lucy Clarke’s One of the Girls should definitely be on your TBR. Filled with suspense and mystery, One of the Girls will keep you guessing which friend is the behind the murderous plot.”– PopSugarAudio Review: This audiobook was narrated by Sofia Zervadachi. It was a very easy listen, and her voice was pleasant and fitting to the story. I did think that she was saying “Elena” the whole time, and only realized the character’s name was Eleanor when I got the finished copy and flipped through it! This story is told from all the ladies perspectives and my goodness, is there a lot racing through the minds of these women. The history, the self-doubt, the insecurities, the grudges, they run deep!! Having read and really liked all of Lucy Clarke’s other books I was eagerly awaiting her next book, sadly One of the Girls did not deliver.

When Lucy Clarke is not writing her novels, she can often be found in the outdoors. Being a very outdoorsy person, she loves to engage in camping, paddleboarding, hiking, windsurfing and barbecuing with friends. The idea for “Swimming At Night,” which was Lucy Clarke’s debut came from her fascination with travel journals. Full of suspense and unexpected thrills, it’ll be hard to put this book down as you try to figure out the ‘whodunit.'”– USA Today Someone somewhere has information on what happened all those years in the past and what has transpired in the intervening period.

Six women (Bella, Fen, Robyn, Eleanor, Ana, Lexi) have traveled to a sun-soaked Greek island for Lexi's hen weekend. What should have been fun in the sun, turned into much, much, more. One of the women, has a secret. But who, which one and what secret? THE AUTHOR: Lucy Clarke writes from a beach hut, using the inspiration from the wild south coast to craft her stories. Lucy is a passionate traveller and fresh air enthusiast. She's married to a professional windsurfer and, together with their two children, they spend their winters travelling and their summers at home by the sea. I really loved that it was told in multiple POV's ~ it really showed how each of them felt about one another and all the lies they tell and all the secrets they try to keep. I found it was paced and written well. I thought I knew where the story was going and I was correct and not correct. I guessed somethings and others were a surprise. Definitely gives off Big Little Lies vibes. Lucy Clarke is a bestselling and award-winning author of mystery fiction novels from the south coast of England.

Clarke patiently and skillfully layers on the tension until the book reaches a final, powerful crescendo that reveals the surprising answers to those questions… Clarke elevates her story with a thoughtful examination of the intricacies of female friendship and women’s lives.” –BookReporter.com But that’s not the whole story. Lexi has a secret about her relationship with Ed. Fen has a secret about the villa. Bella had a secret that came out at the airport, and now she’s not sure if her relationship with Fen will last the weekend. Ed has a secret that Eleanor knows about, but she doesn’t know that it will come out that weekend. Robyn has been living a life with the volume turned all the way down and needs this weekend to find herself again. But it’s Ana who has the secret that could bring everything to a grinding halt. Thank you so much to the publisher, Penguin Group Putnam, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I hate that and how these women are all connected to each other in some way is very corny and unbelievable.

Only thing bothered me was number of the characters: Both POVs are not equally interesting! It was fun to see each character’s different motivation to attend the wedding. Some of them are truly darker thoughts, acting like great example of villanelles! One of the Girls took me by surprise. I loved this. It's not perfect, no, but it resonated with me in so many different ways. I was absolutely captivated by these women.

Shoutout to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Six ladies are off to the the Greek Islands for a hen party (this is one of my favorite British terms!) to celebrate Lexi's upcoming nuptials to Ed. This would make a great book for lounging by the pool or relaxing on vacation. This doesn't take much thought and is an enjoyable read. Even though the setting is stunning, the property exceeding all expectations, the rest doesn't turn out quite as Bella had anticipated. In the interest of complete honesty, this was not a book I enjoyed. Just for context, I say this as a 22-year-old woman whose favorite genre is thrillers with female main characters, which is precisely what One of the Girls is.Sadly, none of the women are all that likable and neither is the storyline. Every character is withholding here, a secret, a lie, something, and when all rise to the surface, it isn’t pretty.
