This book isn't so much about Ottoline living alone. Instead, it's a mystery. The local wealthy adults are being robbed and the police are without any tangible leads. The only clue is the fact that their recently adopted dogs have also gone missing.

I've been enjoying the Goth Girl YA series by author and illustrator Chris Riddell. I also enjoyed his illustrations in Gregory Maguire's Cress Watercress. So it was with anticipation that I started Ottoline and the Yellow Cat, the first book in his children's series featuring young adventure Ottoline. It consists of 4 books. Riddellin kertomukset ovat täynnä nonsense ilottelua, juuri sopivan pöhköä lastenkirjoihin. Ottilia asuu Pippurimyllytalon 24. kerroksessa, asunnossa numero 243. Riddell's illustrations have a complexity similar to Elenor Davis's The Secret Science Alliance and the Copycat Crook with a style that is reminiscent of Edward Gorey and Ian Falconer. After a lot of hard work by Mr. Munroe and lot of planning and help from the Service Agencies, Ottoline and Mr. Munroe do manage to catch the notorious jewellery thief and hand her to the Police. The pet dogs are reunited with their owners, some of them actually hated their owners, because they insisted on taking them to a pet saloon. And which dog likes that? It's been three months since I taught this book to my group of second graders and they STILL reference it during discussions of entirely unrelated books! Not only that but they bring in other books from the series and insist I look at visual motifs that have carried through from this book, the first in the series.
