About this deal

One gripe, there’s a bit of heel slip thanks to the extremely stiff heel counter. I just don’t love stiff heel counters, but it’s amply padded and although there was some movement it didn’t cause any hot spots or adverse rubbing. Cadillac of running shoes

Saucony Triumph 19 | Direct Running

Asics Novablast 2- Not entirely a max cushioned, but still a highly, highly cushioned trainer that does recovery well Jeff: We’ve seen Saucony reinvent the wheel a few times this year, but this is the cleanest/most effective update yet because this upper was the one that needed a little more refinement the most. The shoe dropped more than an ounce, but more importantly the upper just became breathable. If you run exclusively in cold weather then the 18 is probably better for you, but for the rest of us, the update is a welcome change. David: The Saucony Triumph 19 was much more enjoyable for me than the 18. The 19 felt more natural on foot (the 18 was very heavy) thanks to the lighter upper. The midsole and outsole remain the same throughout. The bevel of the heel is done well and the outsole has cutouts in convenient places to make the shoe flexible and rigid in comfortable areas. PWRUN+ still yields a highly protective ride throughout while also providing some responsiveness. The shoe certainly feels better at daily paces though. I've done some harder strides and paces in this shoe and I find it is just a little too much for for those purposes. The outsole is trusty and I have been able to take this in various different terrains. I did find that the midfoot to forefoot transition could come off a little "slappy" and I think some of that might be because of the break of the outsole through the midfoot region of the shoe. Otherwise it is a solid neutral cushioned trainer. Jeff: Wow, Jeremy did an incredibly good job describing the upper, and there’s nothing above I’d disagree with him about. Last year’s shoe was on the heavier side, not that I minded the weight (my pair of 10.5 Triumph 18 is 32g heavier than the same size T19), but the 18’s upper was heavy. Like wool sweater heavy. This year we got away from the ugly sweater party and went with a lightweight and much thinner material, and as a result, the shoe is much more breathable while still holding the foot well. The Triumph line comes with an image of being the kind of comfy limousine in which you just let go and cruise at an easy pace. At least, this is how I imagined the Triumph would run. The midsole is where this shoe shines and, as Kyle mentions, is almost too good to be true. The 32.5-24.5 mm of PWRRUN+ is uber soft, especially in the forefoot. As a forefoot striker, I appreciate the amount of cushion upfront as I often feel left out from the HOKA and big cush party. It’s a smooth ride that almost lulls you to sleep, which makes this a great easy/recovery day shoe. The Triumph 19 is just relaxed, without a care in the world, and that’s how you run in this shoe. That midsole combined with a durable, blown rubber outsole makes this shoe a reliable trainer to turn to when you’re feeling beat up or dealing with injury. Renee: Again, Jermey and Jeff have all the specs covered. I found the midsole on the “soft” side with some bounce in the ride. I found the midsole comforting instead of mushy. I like the traditional ride (i.e. no Speedroll) when running off-pavement, so the midsole provides a good balance of usage for me. PWRRUN+ is not even remotely close to a soft material. It is comfortable, plush, but not soft. It has a nice density to it that is sensible even when walking in the shoes, or thumb-pushing into it. Personally I find it falls right within my personal preferences of responsive cushioning. Not a mushy, pillow-like feeling, but more of a...firm mattress. On the Triumph, this color scheme is only visible on a little part of the heel collar, where the inside mesh is sewn with the external one, making for a discrete touch of fun on an otherwise very classic-classy looking shoe.

Saucony Triumph 19 Review | 2022 Best Cushioned Running Shoes

ROBBE: I’m not a huge cush guy, and one of the first shoes I bashed in a review for Believe in the Run was the Saucony Triumph ISO 4, a monumental clunker that felt more like a sofa for small mammals than an actual running shoe. So I wasn’t exactly excited to put miles into the Triumph 19, but with the ISO fit gone and a PWRRUN+ midsole, I figure I should give it a try. Performance: B+ (Best at daily paces and easy paces, not much versatility, midsole is comfortable and durable during efforts) Although designed for all kinds of paces (from recovery runs to uptempo sessions), the majority of testers consider it more suitable for daily training and long runsthan for speed workouts. The best way to illustrate just how thin and airy the 19’s upper is is with a picture. See how you can see the yellow insole in the 19 in the picture below while you can’t tell that the 18 insole is burgundy?Adidas Ultraboost 21- For those on their heels more, the towering boost with new torsion system feels smooth and forgiving Dr. Andrea Myers is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist who sees patients in Bethel, CT at Carlson ProCare. There’s not much to say about this outsole: simple, effective, the grip is good even on wet asphalt, and it works well on light dry trails. Durability is excellent and I cannot see any sign of wear after 80+kms. Overall: A- ( A great option for runners looking for a neutral, cushioned shoe for easy days, but not great for faster speeds) The Triumph 19 comes with a second set of colorful yellow laces if you want a bit more pizzaz. Not a big deal, but a nice touch. Thumbs up for night running The Sonic 3 can handle long miles, but I find that my legs were more tired after long runs than in the Triumph. On the up-tempo side, I do not find the Sonic Accelerate much more efficient, and it may be due to its lower weight. The outsole is very resistant with a good amount of XT-900 rubber while remaining flexible and allows for miles of running without early wear on the platform. The grip is also perfect on dry and wet pavements alike.

Jeremy: As for virtually every Saucony road shoe out there, XT-900 outsole material still perfectly does the job in the Triumph 19.

A suede insert along the eyelets adds a bit of structure here and I think it plays a big role in the efficiency of this upper construction. Renee: Like Jeremy, I do not often like high-cushioned, soft road shoes. The Triumph does not feel mushy, and the overall cushion helps with comfort during long runs. The weight makes the shoe a slower/easy day shoe for me, and I do not get responsiveness from the ride/midsole, which is fine for its usage. The ride is “buttery smooth” and traditional on pavement and relatively smooth on dirt/gravel. For the 19, Saucony has refined the fit with a new mono-mesh upper. Lighter and more breathable, it was a favorite feature among our testers. “There was plenty of room in the toebox,” said one. “The upper material was easy to lace up and tighten around the midfoot, and my heel felt supported without the shoe fitting too snugly.” Overall: B+ (A solid option for the premium daily trainer in the neutral category. Some stability and transition elements could be refined but overall a good option out there.)The big change in v19 is the upper. The new FormFit mono mesh upper has replaced the double-layered mesh making this shoe lighter, and much more breathable than past versions without losing that luxury Triumph feel. Jeff: Another brand’s long running big cushion daily trainer, the Nimbus has a firmer ride, more narrow toebox, is an ounce heavier, and doesn’t have the same confidence in cushioning as the Triumph. On its own, the Nimbus is a very solid daily trainer, but in an A/B comparison to the Triumph, it’s hard not to see the value the Saucony gives you for the same cost. DPT/Footwear Science: B (Upper refinements and sidewalls are good, though the outsole with a deep flex groove through the midfoot does not seem to do great for the transition)
