About this deal

He didn’t seem to have time to think about such things when he was busy picking off “savages” (his words) with his sniper rifle. Without absolving individual responsibility, the authors emphasize a strong command climate is the most important influence behind ethical and professional behavior.

It would be beyond arrogant and presumptuous of me, someone who has never seen military combat in her life, to judge Kyle's actions in Iraq. The only three phrases he used to describe anything was either "it sucked", "it was awesome", or "it was badass! Now if you are looking for Pulitzer Prize writing you aren't going to find that here and some parts are very choppy. She struggles hard with the fact that her husband loves his job, his country, and his fellow soldiers more than he loves his wife and children.

I’m a bit of a history buff so I found the first person description of combat in the Iraq war informative. Owing to special training he completed back in the USA during his short vacation, the man got a chance to take part in the most dangerous and action-packed operations. It goes from his youth working a ranch, to joining up with Buds/ Seal induction course, to his action packed gun-totting life and times as a Seal member and it gives us sometimes quite brutal first hand scenes of the battles he faced during his career; mainly in Iraq (Fallujah etc. However, other times I found him irritatingly obtuse about family and civilian life, and I found the stereotypes he highlighted about training, other branches of the military, and the enemy degrading. Some of Kyle's descriptions fascinated me with his direct honesty while others repulsed me with his cavalier attitude/descriptions. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head.
