A well-known human-interest columnist during his early career in journalism, Ernie Pyle became truly famous during World War II. Everything war can be, the merciless sorrow of it all, is there in McCullin’s dark, arresting aesthetic – both in his reflective prose and his pin-sharp photographs. Brave had booked their place in the play-offs by beating Originals at Old Trafford on Wednesday and seemed on course for their second final when they piled up their highest total in The Hundred. In 2023, The Ageas Bowl hosted England Women in a sold-out Ashes ODI against Australia on Sunday 16th July, before England Men take on New Zealand in an ODI of their own on Sunday 10th September. Pyle’s descriptions of scenes he witnessed; his simple, unassuming style; and his ability to recognize the humanity in everyone he meets.

His writings were above all else poignant about what was happening in World War II and to whom it was happening. On replacing Marcus Stoinis who was playing his final game] "Paul Stirling joins up with us but I'm a little bit out of the loop to be honest. One world was a beautiful dream and the other a horrible nightmare, and I was a little bit in each of them.

Watch from 18:00 BST on the same channel and there is radio commentary of both games on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra from 14:50 BST.And reading this book really gives you a feeling for what they went through, both the grueling horror and the intense boredom. It’ s a look that is the display room or what lies behind it – exhaustion of sleep, tension for too long, weariness that is too great, fear beyond fear, misery to the point of numbness, a look of surpassing indifference to anything anybody can do.

Simple, straightforward, and immortally relevant, he credits thousands of soldiers with a sentiment that echoes through the decades: "If only we could have created all this energy for something good. Southern Brave’s programme of games at The Ageas Bowl starts on Wednesday 3 rd August as the men’s team take on Welsh Fire in the competition’s opening fixture. Pyle followed the soldiers into the trenches, battlefields, field hospitals, and beleaguered cities of Europe. Were it only so that western society, and especially the US, could muster its energy to create something good without the need of coming face-to-face with obvious self-destruction. She removed Alice Capsey and Marizanne Kapp with the ball and also made a very important 33 with the bat.It all looks a bit beyond Southern Brave at the moment, though, with 117 runs still needed from just 30 balls. But the opening stand had given the Originals the momentum and Buttler found a new ally in Max Holden.
