About this deal

For best results and to prevent a blotchy appearance timber should always be previously sealed with Briwax Danish Oil or Shellac Sanding Sealer. This icon serves as a link to download the eSSENTIAL Accessibility assistive technology app for individuals with physical disabilities. It is ideal for use on wood carvings and turned wood, skirting boards and doors, and is widely used in the pine furniture industry. Considering the skirting boards are pine and the doors will have oak veneer, you may need to experiment a bit if you are looking for them to match, but that is your personal preference.

Please note: Briwax Original Wax is not recommended for use in areas where it will come into contact with water. However, we wouldn't suggest using Danish Oil where the surface is likely to be used for cutting; sharp knives can cut through the surface into the wood, which will allow water to get into the wood at a later stage and damage the finish. Unlike many other finishes such as wood stains, Briwax Spirit-based dyes are not a finish in themselves. However, retouching often used places wouldn’t be hard since it is so easy to apply, as I’m sure you know with your vanity. I’m not familiar with Danish oil, but my understanding would be that and the briwax would need to be maintained at some point some years down the road. I will say this though… the cabinets do not really read that much darker after the wax – even with the Tudor Brown. Also use Shellac Sanding Sealer on customwood (after staining but before oiling) to prevent the oil reacting with the resins in customwood and giving off a lingering odour.

A five litre tin of Danish Oil is normally sufficient for four coats on a floor of 30 square metres. Your best bet may be to get some wax and try it out on a space that is not obvious, like the back of a cabinet door. In the morning, rub the surface with 0000 steel wool, wipe off the dust, and wipe on a second coat of Teak Oil with a cloth. I have taken the faces off of my drawers and cleaned them really well with Krud Kutter, and it took off the finish in some areas… Do you think that will matter?Maintenance: The renowned Briwax finish can be maintained by further applications, giving increased hardness and shine. Many of the Briwax polishes and products are based on the original formulas developed to meet the quality demands of the professional finisher. Since staing with the Briwax my neice was over and was rubbing her feet on these ends and it came off on her socks. I’m sure it does wear off over quite a long period of time, probably moreso on parts of the door that are touched often, and in that case it may help to apply some new wax. Along the edges where the grain is perpendicular to the edge, I just sort of globbed it on, then was sure to buff in the direction of the grain.
