I picked them up at the library after hearing the term codependent used in The Emotionally Abusive Relationship. I figured it would be a good idea to know what they're reading, especially since these clients regard it so highly but seem to be making little progress. I’m enjoying learning about these behaviors I don’t know about and realize I’m not alone in the struggle of being human. Our choices to act in response to negative behaviors have often been attributed to the fault of our partners and feelings that they need our help or rescue.

Within days of my starting to take an interest in the topic this book was referenced in another I was then reading (Traumata, by Meera Atkinson). Nevertheless, a person must not take for granted the idea of self-development that promotes the rise of self-reliant individuals. This book will prompt you to climb the highest point and have a broad overview of how your life should be structured.

The things that cause the most pain will catch us by surprise some ordinary Saturday afternoon, and life will never again be the same.

There's also quite a lot of (unnecessary) religious bias, which of course the 12-step program relies heavily on. We trust that Someone greater than ourselves knows, has ordained, and cares about waht is happening.
