About this deal

Funnybones (Welsh: Y Sgerbyde) is a Welsh-British children's television comedy series, which originally aired on S4C in Wales, and on BBC One with BBC Two showing repeats elsewhere in the United Kingdom from 29 September to 15 December 1992. This first and original, Funnybones has become a classic, with many further books in the series to follow about the "Funnybones" family.

They must not be used for commercial purposes and you are not permitted to redistribute them in any way. Janet Ahlberg died of breast cancer in 1994, at the age of fifty, having produced many beloved and bestselling books. The VHS tape was also released in Bulgaria and Australia, respectively by the companies Proxima Entertainment and ABC Video (but in the former case, it was dubbed into Bulgarian). In English lessons for example, children can learn to appreciate the use of rhyme, alliteration, onomatopoeia, punctuation, speech and simple sentences. The author uses ‘word repetition’ throughout the book to make it enjoyable to the reader and also to make it humorous.Neat book with lots of repetition, onomatopoeia, dialogue, and opportunities to discuss expression and tone. During placement within the EYFS the children have a literacy carpet session every day which consists of one core book a week. I would recommend reading Funnybones when looking at patterned language in stories as they use lots of repetition and alliteration. In the classroom, teachers could discuss the importance of skeletons and the names of important bones. Dog skeleton runs so quickly after the stick and unfortunately ends up bumping into a tree with a great big crash and ends up in a pile of bones.

BOOK OF THE MONTH - A heart-warming and hilarious story told in 25 chapters, perfect for the countdown to Christmas. Big: The larger skeleton brother (who wore a mini red bowler hat in the TV series and who wore various hats in the storybooks and in his wishful ideas). The children really enjoyed the story and where able to notice the repetitive language being used in the story. I recently read this to my little boy and not only was it nostalgic for me but it was a fun, enjoyable read for us both. It’s a perfect book for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and into the earlier years of Key Stage One.The story goes full circle, as the repetitive beginning is mirrored and repeated on the final page, which is very satisfying. I think that this book could be used to introduce a new sience topic, such as the human body to a young student. The Funnybones find a huge wishbone, and try to decide which one of them has the best idea for what to wish for. During the remainder of their adventure, they take a trip to the zoo and continue to hunt for some people to scare.

After deciding to put dog back together, and singing a famous song about bones as they do, they get the bones mixed up.The white, white Dog disappears in the white, white snow and the black, black Cat disappears in the dark, dark shadows.
