It discusses factors including Democratic Party presidential candidate John Edwards' extramarital affair, the relationship between Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and his vice presidential running mate Joe Biden, the failure of Republican Party candidate Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign and Sarah Palin's vice presidential candidacy.

Among them were that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Chuck Schumer privately had urged Barack Obama to run for president in the fall of 2006, in hopes that it would energize the Democratic base and improve the party's chances of winning the presidency. According to the book, Edwards angrily rejected requests by his advisers to distance himself from Hunter. Scythe was one of the best YA books, a huge hit with the kids at school and full of the trademark traits of a Shusterman novel. Most of what we are hearing is high-emotion, low-fact misinformation offered by folks who have no clue what they are talking about. Equally, I liked that Ash wasn't the typical heroic white guy, and instead is quite self critical and often able to see the flaws ingrained into him by society. There need to be books that cover these issues, and I am glad this book exists because of that reason.
