In Bangkok in 1997, Albarn met a crown princess who crowd-surfed at a Blur gig; while writing songs for Cracker Island, he dreamed about meeting her as she is today. Other tracks include "Gor Beaten", which was another track that didn't make the album; however, elements of the track's instrumental were once available on one of the Gorillaz member's computers in Kong Studios.

The Fall contained some tons of funky, experimental beats, but the lyrical depth Gorillaz became known for after Plastic Beach seemed to be lessened. Cracker Island (2023), the eighth studio album from Gorillaz, is coming on 24th Feburary next year, an energetic, upbeat, genre-expansive collection of 10 tracks featuring yet another stellar line-up of artist collaborators: Stevie Nicks, Adeleye Omotayo, Thundercat, Tame Impala, Bad Bunny, Bootie Brown and Beck.

Collaborators are also used to great effect; Del Tha Funkee Homosapien's rapping on his two cuts matches anything on Deltron 3030 whilst Miho Hatori and Ibrahim Ferrer contribute captivating vocal tracks. Based at Kong Studios in West London, Gorillaz settled into a life of musical innovation with an eye-wateringly exciting roster of collaborators, a list that includes musical legends, geniuses and future stars from Elton John to Little Simz, MF Doom to Jean-Michel Jarre, Grace Jones to slowthai, Kali Uchis to Sidiki Diabaté, plus so many more. It was released on 26 March 2001 in the United Kingdom by Parlophone and in the United States by Virgin Records.

The Fall was recorded by Damon Albarn using his iPad and a few other instruments during the North American leg of Gorillaz's Escape To Plastic Beach Tour. Damon had started this with Kevin and was a bit stuck, mostly because it was in an odd time signature, this kind of 6/4. The original clean version of the album included the edited version of Clint Eastwood (Ed Case Refix), instead of the full-length one present on the other US copies.
