About this deal

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. While not as powerful as the Dimplex 360 or MeacoFan 360, this is the fan to go for if you prize your peace and quiet above all else.

Best desk fan 2023: Keep your cool as the temperature rises

Oscillation angle: 37 left°, 33° right | Cord length: Not specified | Warranty: Two years | Noise level: ‎20 to 50 dB | Power: 3. It comes down to a trade-off between budget, size and features: the bigger desktop fans take up more space, but tend to deliver more cooling airflow with lower noise levels than the smaller fans, partly because the fan doesn’t need to spin as fast.

Turn it up – there are 12 speed levels – and the airflow keeps increasing until you’re at the point where no sheet of paper will be left lying on your desk, and you’ll be positively chilled to the bone by the breeze. Slightly strangely, the highest power setting comes first, which means you have to start operation on the strongest blast of air, and then continue scrolling to lessen the airflow. Size and weight are important if you want to lug that fan around, but some might prefer a more stylish model on their desk or bedside table. You can adjust that speed using touch-sensitive controls and an LED display, and also switch on oscillation to keep the fan sweeping back and forth through roughly 70°.

The first thing I noticed when the Honeywell Turbo Force Power Fan arrived on my doorstep was how compact the box was compared to the hefty packaging that had accompanied most of the other fans I was testing for Ideal Home's best fans guide. Stadler has also kept it deliberately simple, with just three speed settings and no oscillation or variable speed features. Best of all, though, this fan is rechargeable and can run for up to 16 hours at a time before needing to be recharged – while it’s charging, you can just run it on USB power. This desk fan does exactly what you want it to do on the cooling front while also looking pretty cool itself. In conclusion, the Honeywell Turboforce Fan (HT-900) is a fantastic investment for staying cool and comfortable in hot weather. Our main gripe is that the warranty is only for a year, which is quite short compared to other fans, but we still think it offers great value, particularly if you don't want to splash out on something you'll only use during the summer months. Controls vary from basic to fairly complex, and a few desktop fans now come supplied with a remote, which can be handy if you want one that will moonlight as a floor fan when you’re relaxing in the lounge.

At nearly 30cm across, it’s a little big for the average desktop, but the clever stand helps minimise the bulk.

Otherwise, you may find some fans offering different fan modes, such as an eco mode, a natural mode or a night setting. They are not as powerful as pedestal or tower fans, and may not be sufficient enough to cool an entire room. If you have the fan pointed up towards the ceiling then this also makes accessing the controls a tad more difficult still as they end up underneath the fan body. making it one of the smallest and lightest weight fans we've tested, only rivalled by the ultra-portable John Lewis Handheld and Foldable Desk Fan.

Honeywell TurboForce Power Fan (Quiet Operation Cooling, 90

There's rarely a true bargain without some kind of payoff, and in the case of the Honeywell Turbo Force Power Fan, its very welcome affordability comes at the cost of intrusive noise and limited functionality. Motor technology and designs have evolved over the past few years to bring us some fans that work more efficiently at smaller sizes, but there’s still a reason why the best desktop fans tend to be the slightly larger models. If you do place the fan on a desk then it makes adjusting the speed setting a little fiddly as you have to peer over the top of the fan to see what you’re doing. What's more, unlike the relatively affordable Russell Hobbs 12" Scandi Desk Fan, the budget Honeywell Turbo Force Power Fan came out of the box fully assembled – a real boon if you're eager to get the cooling device quickly plugged in and some cold air blasting!Whisper-Quiet Operation (5/5): One of the standout features of the HT-900 is its whisper-quiet operation. A cooling icon for 20+ years, the TurboForce family of fans has provided powerful air circulation to generations of delighted consumers. That's where the Duux Globe Table Fan comes in; operating at just 13dB on the low settings, it's impressively quiet. However, if you’re looking for something to cool you down while you’re sitting at your desk, working in the kitchen, are slumped on the sofa or trying to grab some shuteye, a desk fan is the fan for you. She’s now Decor Editor at Ideal Home, offering advice on creating your dream interior, whether that's choosing the perfect shade of paint, investing in a new sofa, or sourcing on-trend and sustainable products for the home.
