About this deal

The main difference between Armagnac and other spirits is that, due to its relatively low alcoholic content, it is generally not diluted with water.

This particular release was distilled back in 1988, and somehow it has made it to today with being enjoyed.

This is now the standard for the region though one of the biggest producers, Janneau, is unusual in using Cognac-style pot stills and double-distillation to make a smoother, more elegant spirit. Then there is the tiny Haut-Armagnac, the high ground, up to about 200 metres above sea level, with mainly chalky soils which produce a rare delicate and fruity spirit.

The VS is made with Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes grown in the Bas-Armagnac and Armagnac-Ténarèze, which go through single and double distillations before being set aside to age for at least three years. There are sources reporting distillation in the region as early as 1411, but how close this would be to the modern brandy is hard to say.It was distilled from four different grape varieties, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Baco and Folle-Blanche before it was matured in oak barrels for 25 years. The Distillery has produced this delightful Armagnac that has won six gold and six silver international spirit awards since its launch. Only 400 litre French wood barrels are allowed and a proportion will be kept in new wood to impart spice and tannin. In 1818, a patent for a continuous distillation alembic led to the main difference between Armagnac and Cognac, which is double distilled in batches.

It’s one of the most beautiful parts of France with its castles and little towns nestled in rolling countryside.
